#PointerNation Homecoming is set for the week of October 2 - October 7 and this year's theme is "Welcome to Fabulous Pointer Nation." Get your parade entries ready! This year’s #PointerNation Homecoming Parade will be Thursday, October 5 at 6:15 pm. If interested in entering a unit in the parade, please sign up using this link: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/30E0949A9AA23AAFC1-mphs or call Mr. Matt Nevers at 608-987-0730, Ext. 472, or email him at matt.nevers@mp.k12.wi.us. Entries should be in no later than Thursday, September 28 to allow enough time to distribute the parade line-up to all involved. Please read important rules below:

Floats may be pulled by car or truck, and the driver must have a valid WI driver’s license. No three or four-wheelers will be allowed in the parade and we ask that you refrain from throwing candy as it creates a hazardous situation for youngsters. Class floats can have 6-8 students riding and drivers of floats must have a valid regular driver's license (19 years old and older). Written permission from the vehicle owner must be registered with the High School Office a week before the parade. Driver's proof of insurance must be turned into the high school office a week before the parade or your entry will not be allowed to participate in the parade.

Line-up will begin between 5:30 and 6:00 pm in front of the Mineral Point Care Center. Please look for the person in the bright fluorescent vest to help you. At 6:15 pm, the parade will proceed down High Street. This year's theme is “Welcome to Fabulous Pointer Nation” with Las Vegas vibes and Parkview/Albany will be the opposing team. The Spirit Rally, including crowning of the queen and king, will begin immediately following the parade at the football field. The Homecoming Football Game will be Friday, October 6 at 7:00 pm.

A big congrats to #PointerNation 2nd Grade Teacher Keri Radtke who is one of only nine educators from around the state to be named a recipient of a Wisconsin Ag in the Classroom Program grant this fall! Each winner received $500 towards their projects that integrate agriculture education into their curriculum -- here are some of her students with their first order of ag books! A huge congratulations to our newly retired #PointerNation Athletic Director Vickie Dahl who was honored Sunday by the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association with its Athletic Director Award at the annual banquet in Wisconsin Dells -- thank you for everything!

1st graders "traveled" to northern Wisconsin to learn about harvesting cranberries! Did you know Wisconsin's state fruit is the cranberry? Also, this past weekend was the 50th Cranberry Fest in Warrens!

Each year, through the Member Recognition Program, the Wisconsin Association of School Boards (WASB) honors school board members who participate in activities that strengthen their skills as local educational leaders. Board members are awarded points for participating in WASB and national activities such as attending conventions, workshops, seminars and webinars or serving on special committees. Congratulations to Joni Heisner, #PointerNation School Board Vice President, for earning Level I recognition!

A heartfelt thank you to all who donated to our cheerleaders' "Minute to Beat Cancer" at halftime of the football game vs. Darlington Friday night! $1633.49 was raised and will be donated to:

Did you know that Mineral Point High School's Principal and Darlington High School's Principal are brothers? The Austins had a friendly wager this fall with the victor to wear the opposing school colors -- #PointerNation won the first volleyball match vs. the Redbirds and the Redbirds edged the Pointers on the gridiron Friday night. Thanks for being good sports, gentlemen!

Mineral Point Police Officer Neil Pilling is back reading to students and we're super glad to have him!

Mrs. Terrill is back for Writers' Workshop in Kindergarten and we are excited for another great year!

Fall is officially here! Caught at recess … leaves were falling and the kids loved trying to catch them; the giggles and laughter were contagious!

Ms. Sauter stopped in to teach 1st graders about composting! Their class gets to be the first to try out composting after snack time. Her worms will get the scraps and the new soil they make will go in our school garden.

Growing and exploring -- we love our time in our oak savanna!

4K listened to “Should I Share My Ice Cream?” and then shared their “ice cream” all the way around the circle. We have such kind kids!

Have formal wear you no longer need? MPHS is having a student-led Formal Wear Drive! Donate today to help students who may want to attend dances such as Homecoming and Prom but need the proper attire. We are in search of: dresses, shoes, jewelry, formal pants, button down shirts, ties, small purses, and formal jackets. On Tuesday, October 17 from 5-7pm, your middle/high school child has the opportunity to take place in the Mineral Point Science Night! They can explore a topic that they are interested in and create a project that shows what was learned from their research and/or experimentation! Students can get a packet from Mrs. McCoy (grades 9-12) or Mrs. Brown (grades 6-8) that can help walk them through steps to be successful with their project. This will have to be done outside of school time or during a study hall and materials are not provided from the school. If your child plans to do this project, our hope is that they will be able to attend the Science Night to show off their work and answer any questions they may get from attendees. If you or your child has any questions, please let Mrs. Brown or Mrs. McCoy know! We are looking forward to a fun Science Night!
