CHS Update
Week of February 12th, 2024
CHS Family:
Run, Hide, Fight Drill March 19th
Clinton High will be participating in a full Run, Hide, Fight drill on Tuesday March 19th. This week we will start preparing our students for this drill. While any drill can be nerve racking due to the nature of what we are preparing for, we believe the more we talk about what to do and practice walking through it, the easier the decision making will go in the event of an actual intruder. The goal of the drill is to improve our ability to protect students. The drill will allow us to evaluate our emergency response plans and improve the students' and our responses to dangerous situations.
Students, caregivers and the community will be notified several times before the drill takes place on March 19th.
Here is an overview of what we will be doing:
Students and caregivers will be notified the day of the drill that the exercise is just a drill
A police officer clearly marked for the drill will act as the intruder with a machine to simulate gunshots in the afternoon of March 19th.
Students and staff will evaluate the situation and decide to run or hide in this drill
Students who run will be directed to our rally point Jefferson Elementary where they will check in
30 students will be bused to a reunification spot to practice the procedures of reconnecting with caregivers after an event. If you and your child would be willing to be a part of this process please sign up here.
All other students will return to CHS for debriefing after the drill
Please contact Principal Theresa Shultz with any questions or concerns. theresa.shultz@csdkq.org
Attendance and Grades
Parent Portal: Having this on your device to check grades regularly, talking to your kids to get anything missing turned in and assessments made up within two days if they miss it
Attendance and tardies: Have a goal that your child misses less than 5 days second semester and less than 10 tardies. Kids have time to get where they need to be so hold them accountable when you see those absences or tardies pop up on parent portal. School starts each day at 8:15 am. Being punctual is a life skill and helps prepare students for the working world. Please watch your child's tardies and stress the importance of being on time everyday. Students need to be in homeroom if they are assigned!
Focus on Kindness:
With yourself and others, how can you continue to show kindness and compassion this year? Kindness spreads kindness and helps all feel welcome and excited to come to school each day! Think about the power of your words face to face and online! What you say and do matters, so use the opprotunity to make others feel good and lift them up!
