Principal's Pen
Hola/Hello Morris Middle School Familias!
It is an Excellent Day to be an EAGLE..!!
Happy Early Valentine's Day Morris Middle Eagles!! What a great week of learning we had last week.
Hip Hip Hooray...
The goal of 100% completion on ACCESS testing was met by Friday, Feb. 10th! Testing has come to an end and we are so proud of our ELL students in their amazing efforts during testing.
We are now focusing on ACAP, our State Assessment! We will be encouraging our students even more from now until our testing ends. We are planning celebrations to help boost our student's excitement about testing. Teachers are continually preparing students for the ACAP Assessment that will occur in late March/Early April. Parents we need your help and support in the efforts. Talk with your students about the importance of doing well on the ACAP. Our students, school and community will be judged by how well we do on the ACAP and I know we can and will see academic growth from our students.
Teachers have prepared for a wonderful week of learning and collaboration. As always, our teachers are continuously working to prepare effective and engaging lessons for our students. We need your assistance in supporting our teachers by ensuring students come to class prepared and ready to work. Parents, we need you to talk with your student(s) about not having off task, disruptive behaviors in class. This type behavior interferes with their learning and academic growth. Please continue to support the vision of Morris Middle by reiterating the expectations of relationship building, collaboration, and by adhering to expectations, rules, and procedures that are in place.
>>>>After-school tutoring remains in affect. Tutoring is held on specific days from 3:10p to 4:40p. Mondays (Math), Tuesdays (Science) and Thursdays (ELA/Reading). Please make sure you sign up your students so that we are aware of who will be in attendance.
****ATTENTION ATTENTION ATTENTION ATTENTION****
>>We want our students to enjoy Valentine's Day, however, deliveries will not be given to<< students. We are asking that students not bring valentine day items, i.e. balloons, teddy bears, bags of candy, etc..
Please come join us for our Morris Middle State of the Schools on Tuesday Feb. 21, 2023 @ 5:30p.
The Morris Middle School faculty and staff thank you so much for your support and understanding as we do what we can to make this school year safe, academically successful and fun!
As always thank you for lending us your very best! We look forward to an amazing and exciting semester of collaboration with your children. Please know that we will place focus this year on ensuring student safety is top priority, focusing on learning, building relationships and preparing students to be college and career ready.

Attendance
***Important...Important...Important...Important...Important...Important***
Attendance is taken daily and we need all students to attend school daily. Students are not only expected to attend school daily, but are also expected to be on time. Parents, it is imperative that your students come to school daily. Just as last school year, an absence from school/class causes your student(s) to miss out on valuable instructional time. The Alabama State Department of Education requires schools to report all repeated absences. Students will be considered truant when missing more than 5 days of school and must be report to our truancy officers. With this in mind, whenever possible, please schedule all doctor appointments outside of school hours (i.e. performances, vacations, etc..). Vacations are not deemed as excused absences.
Nurse’s Station
Hello Morris Middle School families!!
Continue to notify the school nurse of any student Covid or flu cases...
If your student received an expired immunization letter, please bring updated record as soon as possible...
***The clinic is in need of feminine hygiene products and Band-Aids***

According to Ms. Brown...Library News
We’ve Moved Some Things Around ...
The Fiction section has been rearranged! Most of the fiction is now separated into genres. This makes it much easier for mystery fans to find mysteries and adventure fans to find adventure books. Middle School students don’t have much time to browse for books. The new arrangement will make it much easier for them to find exactly what they’re looking for!
Books in Spanish (including books in Spanish and English) are now in their own section.
The Alabama Digital Consortium
We have renewed our subscription to the Alabama Digital Consortium. This is a state-wide collection of eBooks and audiobooks offered by Mackin Educational Resources. Participating schools get access to thousands of ebooks and audiobooks for a fraction of the purchase price. The collection is accessible through Clever. Students have easy to remember usernames and passwords and can connect to MackinVIA through their Chromebook and with the MackinVIA app for personal devices. If you would like more information about the Digital Consortium or how to access the ebooks and audiobooks please contact Ms. Brown.
AR Prizes
Monthly gift card drawings continue! Students who pass AR quizzes are entered into a drawing at the end of each month. The more books a student reads (and AR quizzes they pass) the higher their chances of winning.
We also have random drawings for Takis!
