7th Grade GSS Weekly Update
Week of 5/11-5/15
Classroom Happenings
We are wrapping things up this week and students should turn in all work by the end of the day on Friday 5/15.
Along with their other work this week, I asked them to do a Challenge in the Bubble Extravaganza. It is being done by Webster Project Plus and gifted teachers in elementary and middle school. You can find a link to the challenge here. Students are asked to submit a picture of themselves taking part in the challenge to the Bubble Extravaganza assignment on Google Classroom.
Upcoming Due Dates
Recording History:
The students’ 7th and last entry in their journal/blog/vlog/etc. is due at the end of the week on 5/15
Budget “digging deeper” activity: I originally planned to assign this on Wednesday and have it due at the end of the week. Because I had some technical difficulties, it wasn’t assigned until Thursday. It will not be due until the end 5/15
Parent Resources
Learning a new skill is one way to engage our brains. Even though we try to keep our kids’ brains and bodies active every summer, this year it will be even more difficult than most. Kanopy is a streaming service provided through the St. Louis County Library. While they don't have the selection of Netflix or Hulu, they have many educational and instructional videos, including many from Great Courses, which feature experts teaching about interesting topics from many fields. There is plenty to keep their brains active as they geek out in academic areas with historical events, scientific theories, mathematical principles. They also teach things like painting, cooking, drawing, yoga, mindfulness, mental math, ….
Great Courses programming has a reputation of being dry and boring (and it really can be!), but it also provides a lot of great information if you find topics of interest. And it’s free as a part of the Kanopy platform.
