We Are Called
Sept. 17, 2021
No School Tuesday, Sept. 21, Visitation Monday evening 5-8 and Funeral Mass at 10 Tuesday all at SHOJ
As you know, we have been saddened by the passing of Emily Sharp. Emily and her family of 5 children have been active at SHOJ for the past 8 years. As a Christian Community we are called to support each other in our grief and encourage everyone with the belief of heaven. When dealing with a loss, we strive to find a way to contribute and help each other through difficult times. A Catholic funeral allows us to share in the Lord's promise by participating in the sacrifice of the Holy Mass.
In efforts to allow all staff to attend the service and the use of our facility to support the Sharp family, the decision has been made to close school for the day on Sept. 21. Teachers will participate in a Professional Development Day around the funeral. We recognize that for many this may require a sacrifice but after much thought and prayer, we know this is what God is asking us to do at this time.
Thank you in advance for understanding and for the continued prayers for the Sharp family.
There is no school on Tuesday, Sept. 21.
From Mrs. Rhodes
I love giving tours to perspective families and talking about SHOJ. One thing that I spend a lot of time talking about is the Catholic Parents as Stewards group - CPS. The mission statement for CPS is: CPS is a ministry of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic School that is aligned with the Stewardship Way of Life practiced at our parish. As stewards of our God-given gifts, we are committed to gratefully serving and supporting our Domestic Church, school, parish and greater community, as well as growing through hospitality, prayer, formation and service. By bringing the Domestic Church, school and parish into a closer relationship, together with the Holy Spirit, we are committed to forming Disciple of Christ through a meaningful Catholic Education.
During September, we typically have a meeting that has an education piece for parents. As we discussed the many topics that could help parents, the topic of community kept coming up. The leaders determined that at this time, we need to connect socially to coincide with the mission of the group. Covid has taught us how important it is to be in relationship with people. On Thursday, we will gather for a happy hour in the meeting rooms - more details on the flier below.
Also, this week they group is sponsoring Donuts with Dads on Thursday morning. This will be in the courtyard from 7:30-7:55.

From our Counselor
I was reminded in a huge way this week how truly blessed I am to be part of this Sacred Heart community. As the school counselor, I get to see first-hand the way our teachers and staff care for our students and strive every day to learn how to meet each student where he or she is as a learner and a child of God. There is a depth of care and love that exists within the walls of Sacred Heart School that I haven’t seen or felt in my previous places of work. I know it is the presence of God that we invite wholeheartedly each day, but it also comes from knowing that we are family. This week, we are grieving the loss of a special member of our family. And while the void is real and comes with sadness and confusion, I am witnessing true faith walking these halls; God’s work in our teachers, students, and staff to which they are responding with relentless compassion, hope, and love. In this place of great learning, it is refreshing and inspiring to know that our student’s emotional and spiritual health is held with utmost importance. If you or your student is struggling with or any loss in their life, please reach out. I am here to help.
Many blessings,
Lori Schierts

From the Nurse
We have had 1 positive/presumptive positive students and no positive staff member. We have our testing supplies to be able to test students who have been exposed but are without symptoms so they can avoid quarantine. These students get tested for 5 school days in order to be allowed in school each day. Nurse Mary will discuss your situation with you to determine if you are eligible to be tested at school. We are continuing our mitigation strategies from last year - deep cleaning, frequent handwashing, distancing and masking. The biggest thing that keeps us all healthy is when you are sick to stay home. Please let me know if there is anything I can help you with.

Yearbook Club
Calling 5th-8th grade students interested in creating the 2021-2022 Yearbook!
Yearbook Club will meet Wednesdays from 3:30-4:30 p.m. in the school Computer Lab. Yearbook Club will begin Wednesday, September 22.
Students in 5th -8th grade are eligible for Yearbook Club. Yearbook Club will be limited to 13 students per semester. Older students will be given preference if there are more than 13 students wanting to join the Yearbook Club. A “waiting list” will be established if needed.
Yearbook Club members will work with Mrs. Barragree to create the 2021-2022 Sacred Heart School yearbook. They will use computers and digital cameras, select and organize photographs, take some photographs, and decide what words should be used to best express our school year. They will also help decide what cover to use and what sections to include.
Yearbook Club members need to be responsible, reliable, enthusiastic, and willing to work as a team.
We are very excited to offer this free activity for Sacred Heart students! It has been a great success in previous years.
A schedule for Yearbook Club and a Sign-up Form are included in the newsletter. Please complete the sign-up form, cut it off, and return it to the front office or Mrs. Barragree on or before Wednesday, September 15, if you are interested in joining Yearbook Club.
