Foothill-DeAnza Presents to LASD Board
Thanks to Foothill-DeAnza Community College District for its presentation regarding the excellent academic and work-training programs it provides for our community of young people and adults. Serving approximately 60,000 students annually, the college is a leader in graduation rates, university transfer rates and affordable higher education. We're proud of our ongoing partnership with the community college district to ensure that every student has the opportunity to an excellent education and a successful future. Tour Our Schools!
Do you have friends and neighbors interested in getting to know about the great education children receive in our schools? Superintendent Baier shared with the Board last night that all of our elementary and junior high schools are providing tours for interested families. Meet the Principal, learn about our programs and curriculum and get a glimpse of our students' excitement about learning. In short, learn what our community loves about LASD schools!
Update on Community Engagement for Facilities
As you may know, LASD initiated a Community Engagement Process in May 2019 to engage the public in finding a solution to house Bullis Charter School in the long term. Jeff Baier provided an update yesterday evening. To date, the Community Engagement Process for Facilities Project Team has hosted two charrettes, where community members shared new ideas and evaluated previously considered solutions to house BCS in the long term. The charrettes were very well attended, with over 200 in attendance at the first one and over 250 in attendance at the second. Thank you to all of our community members for participating and adding your voice to this process.
Multi-Lingual Facilities Discussion
There will be a third multi-lingual charrette, or discussion of facilities ideas on October 29, 6-7:30pm in the Santa Rita Multipurpose room. To help us prepare for the event, please let us know you will attend by filling out this form. These discussions will be held in Spanish, Mandarin, Russian and Japanese, so please only attend if you will participate in these languages. The format will be the same as the previous two charrettes, so if you have already attended a charrette, please allow others to participate in this important discussion.
Workshops in November
The second phase in the Community Engagement Process are the workshops. There will be two of them held, but we do ask that you please only attend one workshop so that we can ensure all have the ability to participate. The workshops will be held on Saturday, November 2, 9:30-11:30 in the Egan Multipurpose Room and Monday November 4, 6:30-8:30 in the Blach Multipurpose Room. Participants in the workshops will have a chance to discuss, evaluate and weigh public support for the community-generated ideas from the charrettes. MIG will then organize and summarize the results, which will be presented to the LASD Board in January.
