Be your best.
Do your best.
Grow even better.
The winter weather has arrived early this season and is here to stay. We have seen more students coming to school without winter weather gear, such as a winter coat, gloves/mittens, winter hat, and boots. As a district, students have outdoor recess unless it is below 0 degrees "real feel." If it is below 0 degrees, students have recess indoors.
Students are outside for a length of time. They need to have the appropriate winter weather gear.
Many students believe that wearing a sweatshirt is considered to be prepared for winter weather. Students are welcome to wear multiple layers of sweatshirts to keep warm, but one is definitely not enough. If students are not dressed in winter weather gear, students will an adult and have winter weather gear brought to school.
We would appreciate assistance ensuring students have appropriate winter weather gear. Thank you!
Happy Holiday Season!
Winter Break begins Thursday, December 22nd and ends Monday, Janaury 2nd. We look forward to seeing students in school on Tuesday, January 3rd.

I can’t believe how fast Christmas is approaching. At this time of year, many of us want to give gifts to others to show our love and appreciation for them. People are more willing to help those in need and to volunteer for worthwhile causes.
At WMS, this month, three of our organizations, Student Council, NJHS, and TIP, have students who volunteered their time to ring the bell for the Salvation Army. We have so many kind and generous students at WMS, and they make me proud every single day. Some of our students have volunteered to be peer tutors, peer mentors, peer mediators, and WEB leaders. They put their hearts, not to mention their valuable time, into these programs without being paid a single cent. They do it because they care about others, and they want to help make our school a great place to be.
There are so many positive things our students do to make others smile, and feel good about themselves. In addition to what has already been mentioned, we have student council members who volunteer to read to young children in daycare. Students volunteer every week to spend time interacting, helping, and playing with our preschool kiddos. Big Champs members positively interact with 3rd-grade students at Lincoln and form relationships with them as they teach them valuable life skills. Builders Club has projects students are excited about and are working to bring to fruition. Projects that will help improve people’s well-being.
So in this season of giving, I just want to send a huge shout-out and thank you to many of our WMS students for your kind and generous hearts!

Did You Know?
For students who have an F in any course on Monday mornings, Friday is considered a required attendance day for them. Emails are sent through Infinite Campus to the contacts to inform families. Students are privately notified on Mondays during their 7th-period class.
Students can raise their grades, a D and above, so they are not required to attend Friday School. When a student raises their grade during the week, they come to the office and obtain a Friday School Form and have the teacher(s) of the class the student had an F sign. This form is then returned to the Main Office, a mini celebration is held, and the student is removed from the Friday School list.
From the Desk of Mr. Swanson
I’ve been thinking a lot lately about failure. Failure is an unfortunate part of life. Each
and every one of us is destined to fail many times within our lifetime. It is human nature to ache
when we fail. We have fallen short of our ideal for ourselves. Each one of us is striving, day by
day, to be a better version of ourselves. It’s not a secret that failure leads to growth. The
important lesson to be learned from failure is, how will I grow from this? How will I learn from
this? How will I be better the next time around?
While it is okay to experience failure, dwelling on failure is detrimental to our mental
health. While I have failed and continue to fail in my personal and professional life, I strive to
improve with every day and every new experience. Instead of asking yourself, how have I failed
today, maybe ask yourself what opportunities for growth was I presented with today? How am I
going to be better prepared for the next opportunity because of the challenges I faced today?
Give yourself grace. This season is about grace. We are supposed to extend an extra
measure of kindness to our fellow human beings. I find that I am so much more willing to
extend that grace to others than I am to myself. Does this ring true to any of you? What can
you do to be kind to yourself today? Find a quiet moment to do something you enjoy. If
something is bothering you, find someone close to you to talk to about it. This holiday season,
let it be a season of grace for others, but also grace for yourself.
