Notes from the Music Room
Kindergarten has been learning all about fast(presto) and slow(largo) music! They have also been able to use egg shakers, sand blocks, rhythm sticks and boomwhackers!
Grade 1 has been learning lots of turkey songs and creating orchestrations to go along with the song story, The Cat goes fiddle-i fee. They have also been learning about high and low pitches.
Second graders have been melody detectives and playing through songs on boomwhackers in order to figure out the mystery songs. They have also been trying their hand at the xylophone, glockenspiel and metallophone.
Third grade has started to learn the recorder! They have learned the notes B, A and G and are starting to learn their first full song, Hot Cross Buns.
Fourth graders have started back up with the recorder. They have learned new note D and are currently working on the song, Jingle Bells.
Fifth graders started learning the ukulele! They are learning how to read chord charts and TABS. All fifth graders were able to take a ukulele and a tuner home for the remainder of the school year!
We learned about Native American composers, musicians, music and instruments (See below)

Gifts for Kids
For over 25 years the Gifts for Kids program has helped ease the financial burden for families in need during the holiday season. Children identified by human service providers in and around Norfolk County receive holiday gifts through your generosity. This year the need for your help is greater than ever. We are asking for your renewed support so that we may continue to bring joy to families in our community this holiday season.
The Boyden School has once again volunteered to participate in the Gifts For Kids program This voluntary program through Boyden has helped hundreds of families and we are hoping that your family will volunteer to support this event.
Each class at Boyden has been assigned a gift box with a child’s name, age, and wish list items attached to it. If you are willing to participate, your child may remove one of the choices with your approval. Please return the unwrapped gifts to your classroom no later than Monday, December 11, 2023.
Gifts For Kids is also requesting gift wrap and tape.
Student Council Spirit Day
The Student Council's next Spirit Day is Friday, December 18th. It will be "Walpole Day"! Wear your Walpole/Boyden gear or blue and orange. It should be a fun day!
Outdoor Recess
The cold winter weather has arrived and this is a friendly reminder to have all students wear the appropriate outdoor winter clothing. As long as the temperatures allow, we will continue to have students go outside for recess. It is extremely important for students to wear boots, hats, mittens/gloves, and winter coats on cold winter days.
