Message from School Counselor: Mrs. Thornberry
During this rotation of Guidance on the Fine Arts wheel, we have been discussing empathy. Your students have also continued learning more mindful breathing techniques, such as Take 5 Breathing and Belly Breathing. If you’d like to incorporate mindfulness into your home here is a link to 51 Mindfulness Exercises. In future lessons, we will be participating in the Suite 360 lessons as outlined below which are required by the Florida Department of Education.
Suite 360 Curriculum: Starting After Thanksgiving
FLDOE State Board of Education Rule 6A-1.094123 requires school districts to annually provide instruction to students in Grades K-12 related to child trafficking prevention and awareness.
Message from the Clinic: Nurse Diane
Besides seeing the students with chronic medical conditions and injuries, I am also working in the clinic screening students for COVID and doing follow up on those that have tested positive. I’m working closely with the administration of Calusa, the Healthcare District of PBC, and the Department of Health. Please remember to let me know if your child or anyone else in your household tests positive for the COVID virus. My phone number is 561.989.7520 and my email address is dmorris@hcdpbc.org. With Healthy Regards, Nurse Diane
Attention Parents of Distance Learners in Grades 3-5,
In January, students in 3rd, 4th and 5th grade will take a winter diagnostic. This will provide crucial information which will be used in determining student progress and areas where more support may be needed.
We are offering the option for distance learners to come to campus to take these assessments in the format and setting most similar to FSA. Students will be provided with a testing booklet, answer sheet, pencils and mints all safely contained in individual ziploc bags. We will be maintaining our safety protocols while administering these tests, including masks and 6 ft distancing. Please note that if you opt to send your child to school for these assessments they will not be with their homeroom class, but will test in another location.
Each test lasts approximately 120 minutes and is given over a 2 day period. Students with accommodations will receive those as dictated by their 504 or IEP and may require longer testing times. Students will be picked up following the conclusion of testing each day and will rejoin their classes virtually. Virtual attendance will not be impacted by taking these tests on campus.
The following are the dates, grade levels and subjects which administration will be given:
1/14-1/15 3-5th Grade ELA
1/21-1/22 3-5th Grade Math
1/28-1/29 5th Grade Science
For scheduling purposes we ask that parents/guardians of our Distance Learners complete this form no later than December 4th.
Kind Regards,
Mrs. Kara Schwarz
Message from Alexia Anagnostakis, MSW School Behavioral Health Professional
Mindfulness Moment: Rainbow breathing helps us to become mindful of our body, quiets our mind, and helps us to become energized. We start by sitting on the floor or a chair, and sweeping our arms up to meet in the middle in order to create a “rainbow.” While we sweep our arms up, we breathe in. When we sweep our arms down, we breathe out. Click on the link below to follow along with the “Rainbow breathing” video. Parents and students can do this together whenever a mindful moment is needed.
