CELEBRATIONS
Great things are happening at WCS!
This Wednesday, Third Grade held their annual Dance-A-Thon to raise money for next year's swim classes. Each year third graders participate in 6 weeks of swim lessons at the YMCA to learn basic swim and water safety skills. The Dance-A-Thon was a solid hour of music and movement in the WCS Gym with Mr. Hutchings as the DJ. The pledges that students gather will go toward funding lessons for next year's third-graders.
SUBSTITUTES
Have you ever considered becoming a substitute teacher? RSU1 offers $130/day and $65/half day. You can sign up to sub at any of the schools in the district, or at a specific school of your choice. You also have the option to sign up as a classroom or specials teacher, or as an Ed Tech that provides classroom support. CLICK HERE to learn more about this amazing opportunity to make an impact!
Purple Penny
Woolwich Central School is proud to host the Pocket Change for Charity coin drive! For the next three weeks, January 8th to the 26th, homerooms will be collecting change to support local families during the winter months. The class that raises the most money will be awarded the coveted, giant "Purple Penny" (pictured above) to display in their class.
Will any class be able to unseat Mr. Harrington, our reigning champion of the past two years? Check those couch cushions and car cup holders to find some coins to contribute. Thank you for your generosity in supporting our neighbors. Every penny counts!
PTA NEWS
Our goals as a PTA are to provide educational and enrichment opportunities for all students, and to organize events for our school community to gather and celebrate our students, staff, and families. So what exactly does the Woolwich Central School PTA do?
- We sponsor field trips, presentations, and activities for all grade levels such as: Chewonki animal visits and presentations, K-2 Beach Day, Go2Science celebrity visits, author visits and the travelling Planetarium.
- We support whole-school contests and activities like the Back-to-School Block Party, Field Day, Incognito Turkey, Masked Reader, Pumpkin Decorating, and the Winter Tree Lighting;
- We provide volunteer support for school events like Picture Day and Eat the Rainbow week, and provide funding for teacher-requested projects or activities like Math Team, and Middle School Book Club.
- We make sure our staff is appreciated for all of their hard work throughout the year, and we also maintain the Snack Stash in the office, which provides small snacks for students who've forgotten theirs or need a little extra food to make it through a long school day!
These are just some of the things that our PTA does, and we would love to have you be part of it! We are a small group of parents and community members who meet monthly, and there are no expectations or commitments- you are welcome to participate and/or volunteer as much or as little as you would like. If you are interested in learning more about our PTA and what we do, please attend a meeting or message us at mywcspta@gmail.com- we can't wait to hear from you!
Our next meeting is January 10th at 6 PM in the WCS Library.
WEEKLY WELLNESS WITH MR. HUTCHINGS
THINGS TO TALK ABOUT
- Remember to check the Lost & Found in the school entryway when you are here! There is a growing collection of fleeces and hoodies looking to reunite with their owners!
- A change of clothing is helpful for all students (not just little kids!) Keeping a spare outfit in the locker will prevent the need to call home if someone gets wet at recess or spills something!
In accordance with School Board policy, the following promotional announcements have been included at the request of the sponsoring organization because they may be of interest to students and their families. These activities are not sponsored byt the school, and inclusion of these announcements does not constitute endorsement of the organizations or activities by the school.
