July 2021
Bizlink Winter Festival
This year there's going to be plenty of live music throughout the High Street, Regent Street, Union Street and in the Town Square. It's a great opportunity to do some late-night shopping and enjoy the winter festivities with the family.
We've got some beautiful new braziers custom-made by our co-sponsors Croucher and Crowders. The Lions will be supervising marshmallow toasting with the new braziers.
There will be stallholders selling unique one-off goods and lots of food options.
Another new feature is a fire display taking place in the Tasman Toyota section on High Street (between Town Takeaways and the BNZ).
The Smoked Brisket Cook-Off is back and it's getting bigger! This year it includes ribs and pulled pork burgers in Campbell Lane. This year you'll find them in Campbell Lane but you can buy tickets now from Caffeinate. Get in quick because they sell out fast. Your ticket doesn't just pay for your dinner, it allows you to take part in the voting for the Smoked Brisket Competition. This year the proceeds from the meat sales will go to Menzshed Hāwera.
The Town Square stage entertainment will be Sonic Delusion and Lauren Nottingham. We're really excited to see them performing for our community.
One of the big town attractions will be the Silient Disco in the former Oxygen Building where two DJ's are battling for your attention and dance moves. You'll come in through the Regent Street door, head over to get your neon facepaint on, grab some headphones and turn them on to enter the world of disco beats. A button on the side of the headphones allows you to change channels and DJs. They'll know you're listening to them because of the colour your headphones glow.
Also, in Oxygen (accessible from Regent Street) you will find a couple of face painters and someone at the ready to spray your hair up in Neon colours. (Check yourself out under the black light).
Its all go between 214 and 242 High Street! The shops here are all working together to run a 'Pizza Eating Competition'. A fundraiser for St John Ambulance Service, it kicks off outside T&H Appliances at 5.15pm on the night.
It costs just $10 to register for this competition and then you go out and seek sponsorship to eat as many slices of pizza as you can put away in ten minutes. Sponsorship forms are available from T&H Appliances, Rookie Sister Kitchen and Hairs the Secret. You need to register for this by 12 July.
It's going to be a great night so make sure you dress warmly, open your store and get into town with your whānau and friends!

Croucher & Crowder Co-sponsor Braziers
We are thrilled to have the support of local engineering firm Croucher & Crowder.
This year, Croucher & Crowder have have designed and built new long-lasting braziers which will be used at every Bizlink Hāwera Winter Festival.
Croucher and Crowder has not only designed and built these braziers but they've also shared half of the production cost with us. Bizlink Hāwera's Winter Festival is an annual community event so heading into our third festival it was important to develop a brazier which could stand the test of time. We really appreciate this collaboration as it allows us to add value to the event in other areas.
Each blazing brazier will be guarded by the Normanby and District Lions who will be on hand to assist the children with marshmallow roasting.
Get Your Costumes Sorted! Comic Book Day - Saturday 14 August
For the first time since 2019, Comic Book Day is coming back to Hāwera!
It's Saturday 14 August 2021. It was unfortunately postponed in 2020 due to Covid-19 but the event is going to be great this year! Primarily organised by Hāwera LibraryPlus, we're supporting by developing a bunch freestanding life-size Comic Book characters. Zodiac signs did an amazing job creating these for us and we can't wait to see them hanging out in stores throughout town. So we want to know who would like to host one of these colourful creations in their business?
We are looking to plan a little something fun while these are out on display leading up to Comic Book Day - it will be simple, it will be fun and may encourage people with event-specific interests to pop by your business so please keep that in mind when deciding whether or not to host one.
We have what looks like plenty but they will get snatched up fairly quickly so please give us a heads up as to what character you may prefer and a second option just in case that one is not available.
We have Thor, Wonder Woman, Spiderman, Elektra, Deadpool, Black Panther, Thanos, Cat Woman, The Joker, Wolverine, Green Lantern, Iron Man, Incredible Hulk, Emma Frost, Batman, Superman and Captain America still available.

iRepair Gadget Specialists now in Hāwera!
Matt Jones and Bjorn Barlien (left to right) are co-owners of the newest Hāwera business- iRepair and Gadgets.
iRepair and Gadgets first came to Hāwera about a year ago as a very successful pop-up shop.
Their main store was in Whanganui. Since then, they've had a consistent Hāwera customer base sending devices to their Whanganui premises for repair so opening a new store here seemed a logical next step.
iRepair specialises in mobile phone, tablet, ipad, laptop and computer fixes. They'll have a go at sorting almost anything electrical.
The store is located at 238 High Street (next to JH Sportswear) and also stocks a selection of phone cases, screen protectors, chargers and cables, and a range of other bluetooth devices.
iRepair is open from 10am until 5pm daily Monday to Friday. Phone 06 215 5030 or find them on Facebook at "iRepair and Gadgets Hāwera".
They're currently looking for the right person to staff the Hāwera shop Bjorn says.
"We need the next gadget repair superstar. This person does not need to be an expert, but a bit of knowledge is always helpful". Training is provided.

Tim Waite - Resilience In the Workplace
With handy tips and techniques participants were kept engaged with a well put together presentation and some easy level team work. Tim has a very deep understanding of what drives people, their differing individual focus and personality strengths and weakness as well as how to make it work for them.
For example when employing a new team member it would make sense to find out where that person could fit in amidst the current personality structures. He offers further understanding of these working and personal relationships with his Core Strengths program. This workshop was held at Tairoa Lodge and as always, they provided participants with some beautiful nibbles to get them through to workshop finish. Feel free to discuss your team structure tailored to your workplace email: tim@timwaitecoaching.co.nz
