FAMILY DISCIPLESHIP from The Village Church
HOW? This is a fairly short series on family discipleship. It is made up of 4 sermons but it is jammed packed with top/bottom view material for you and your family to think/pray through as well as very practical things to do on the ground. Don't blast through them in one sitting or even in a week. Get with your spouse and take time listening it and debriefing the material and then ask how to implement these into your family.
WHAT? Here's the basic table of contents for this series
1. Milestones: Before implementing a rhythm of time, moments and milestones in our homes, we must model for our families what it means to live out a genuine walk with God and demonstrate true repentance where and when we fall short. 2. Time: Part of our family discipleship framework is creating intentional time, built into the rhythm of our family's life, for the purpose of thinking about, talking about and living out the gospel. LINK: https://www.tvcresources.net/resource-library/sermons/time
3. Moments: Part of our family discipleship framework is capturing and leveraging moments in the course of everyday life for the purpose of gospel-centered conversations. LINK: https://www.tvcresources.net/resource-library/sermons/moments
4. Milestones: Part of our family discipleship framework is marking and making occasions to celebrate and commemorate significant spiritual milestones of God's work in the life of our families. LINK: https://www.tvcresources.net/resource-library/sermons/milestones
TOP STORIES & THE CULTURAL WORLDVIEW
1. Goodbye, Swimsuit Competition. Hello, ‘Miss America 2.0.’ (New York Times)
Fifty years ago, the swimsuit-wearing beauties of the Miss America pageant were confronted with a spectacle on the Atlantic City boardwalk: 100 feminists throwing bras, girdles, curling irons, false eyelashes and other “instruments of female torture” into a trash can labeled “Freedom.”
The protesters had planned to set the can on fire but could not get the right permits — so, alas, no bras were burned that summer day, though it is the origin of the term “bra burning.” They were condemning what even then they saw as an antiquated institution, which had mostly male judges scrutinize women’s bodies, women of color at one point not allowed to compete, corporations profiting on the event, and three in four American households watching it all happen on television.

2. How the Royal Wedding Might Influence Weddings to Come (New York Times)
Simplicity and informality joined hands with pomp and circumstance when Meghan Markle, 36, married Prince Harry, 33, Saturday in St. George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle. She looked a bit Audrey Hepburn-ish (or was it more Jennifer Lopez in “The Wedding Planner”?), and he as uniformed as a man could look.
The world witnessed a transformative moment for the Royal House of Windsor, but will the couple’s personalized, multicultural wedding affect bridal trends to come?
And with more modern vows like the newly minted duke and duchess chose — there was no mention of “man and wife” (they said “husband and wife”) and no mention of obeying — places of worship might seem more inviting for couples who want to personalize.

3. 6 Things JD Greear Plans to Focus On As Newly-Elected SBC President
Pastor JD Greear, of Raleigh-Durham, North Carolina, was just recently elected President of the Southern Baptist Convention. The newly-elected president says God put six areas of concern on his heart, giving him a sense of calling to run.
1. The Gospel Message
The SBC is commonly made up of diversely styled churches that focus on different aspects of style and cultural background. Greear says that while this is true, “we come together united by a common Gospel confession and also by a common Gospel mission.”
He goes on to explain: “For as long as there has been a convention, you’ve had things that threatened to challenge that unity of the Gospel. [I’m] just wanting to see the Gospel be what we unify around and not be divided on secondary and tertiary issues.”
