PTO/Green Team Plant Sale: Volunteers needed, pick-up reminder and plants for purchase

The Fitness & Nutrition Group will be participating in The Good Life Race on Saturday, April 30th. We are so proud to have our Kids Running Beye Group!

The district sent out the below form recently. It is optional, but if you are interested in sharing information it is due per the district Monday, May 1 by 8:00 a.m. As seen at the start of the short survey: “We are now planning for the 2023-2024 school year which includes organizing students into homerooms. Organizing students into homerooms is a complex process that takes into consideration multiple variables and has several stages. For this initial stage, we wish to provide an opportunity for you to provide us information about your child.”

By Discovery is hosting a family friendly event Art for Ukraine: Art Exhibition, Creative Workshop & Benefit.

It is coming up soon, on May 3rd, at OPPL from 5:30 to 7:30pm.
It is a free event, with optional donations to non-profit organizations supporting Ukrainian families. Last year, in collaboration with the Beye PTO, we raised $1,700

The Beye school 2022-23 yearbook is coming along nicely-- it's time to order!

We're making these using TreeRing, which is the same company as in past years.

All orders are due by June 9 for free shipping (they will ship to the school)
(It's possible to order anytime after this date too, but they charge about $6 to ship it individually.)

We'll get these yearbooks during the summer -- probably mid to late July -- and we'll have multiple occasions for you to pick them up! If you have questions, feel free to e-mail me at pivarski@gmail.com -- I'll do my best to find the answer for you!

Also, if you have any awesome pictures of school events, classroom parties, or field trips, feel free to send them my way! We can always use more content! And if you'd like to be in charge of the page adjacent to your kid's class, let me know-- it take between 30-60 minutes to finish one of these, and it's an easy activity to do. (I have instructions for the interested!)

The Spring MAP Test Reports will be coming home with your student by May 5th.

District 97 is gearing up for the 2023-24 school year! Online registration in District 97 will officially launch on the following dates:

• Kindergarten and New Student Registration will begin on Friday, May 5.
• Returning Student Registration will begin on Friday, May 26.

We are currently working to finalize updates to registration documents, forms and webpages, and we appreciate your patience as we complete this important process. Please look for additional information on the 2023-24 registration process in the coming weeks!

District 97 partners with a company called BrightArrow to deliver important information to families through calls, emails and text messaging. Next week, the BrightArrow system is adding a new texting phone number to speed up text delivery. Please note that your family may start seeing text messages from our school coming from the short code phone number 79041, in addition to the number 87569.

As a reminder, you may opt-in to text messages from our school at any time by sending YES to the shortcode 87569 and 79041. You must have your phone number on file with the school to receive text messages. Once you opt-in, BrightArrow will send you a confirmation that your phone number is opted-in.

District 97 is seeking students who:

• are non-IEP students who will be between the ages of 3 and 4 years by Sept. 1, 2023;

• demonstrate age-appropriate language and social skills;

• are Oak Park residents;

• are not enrolled in a preschool program.

District 97's Single Subject and Whole Grade Level Acceleration process for students for the 2023-24 school year is now open!

District 97 believes that all students should be challenged and supported to develop to their maximum potential. For students who demonstrate they may benefit from accelerated placement, we provide opportunities to participate in an instructional setting that is usually reserved for students who are older or in higher grades than the child. This includes, but is not limited to:

• Single subject acceleration
• Whole grade acceleration

In accordance with the Illinois Accelerated Placement Act, District 97 has continued to refine procedures to ensure equitable access to acceleration opportunities for all students. Continuing this year: all students who are grade eligible to take the Illinois Assessment for Readiness (IAR) must participate in the assessment in order to be deemed eligible for acceleration. The IAR is a critically important measure in determining the mastery of grade level standards and must be considered by the school team along with other sources of data.

Pre-applications for single-subject and whole-grade acceleration will be accepted from March 1 to May 15 of each school year. The general process is outlined HERE.

As Field Trip season ramps up, please make a point of getting your background check done (especially if you are new to the District)! You need to make an appointment at the District Office, here is the link.

In District 97, we understand and appreciate that it will take all of us—families, staff, community members—working together to have a safe and healthy winter. As we continue through the winter months, we want to remind you of a few preventative measures our school community can take to reduce the spread of illness in our schools:

• Wash hands often, especially before eating and after using the bathroom.
• Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth. These are the most common ways for germs to enter the body.
• Cover your mouth and nose with your arm when you cough or sneeze.
• Get plenty of sleep!
• Eat whole, unprocessed foods and include fruits and vegetables at each meal.
• Stay up to date on your vaccinations

Should students get sick, they should not come to school. Please do not send your child to school with any of the following symptoms:

• Constant coughing
• Constant “runny” nose, especially with yellow or green mucus
• A temperature of 100 or higher
• Nausea, vomiting or diarrhea
• Rashes or any scratching for unknown reasons, with or without fever
• Watery, itching eyes that have drainage or are crusted shut upon waking

If your child tests positive for COVID-19, please report the illness by completing District 97’s Positive Case Notification form. Thank you for sharing this responsibility with us to Be Safe and Healthy by looking out for the collective care of the community this winter!

CELL PHONE/MOBILE DEVICES: OFF and AWAY DURING THE DAY

Reminder: Cell phones/Mobile Devices are not to be used during school hours. This includes calling parents/guardians due to illness, requesting items to be dropped off, etc.

• Students can ask a teacher to use the classroom phone or the phone in the main office if needed.

• Parents can call the main office to relay any urgent messages.

Cell phones are to be turned off upon entering the school building and not used until the dismissal bell rings. Our School Board Policy 7:190 - Student Behavior, Prohibited Student Conduct, #5, addresses cell phones during the school day. Also, Board Policy AP5 - Administrative Procedures

Bring any and all sneakers, in any condition, to the school for donation through the end of the school year. Athletic shoes only please.

The Beye Green Team has partnered with gotsneakers.com to keep sneakers out of landfills and earn money for Beye!

We want to show our Beye Spirit by encouraging students and staff to wear Beye Wear or blue and white colors each Friday or the last day of the week.

The breakfast and lunch menus for our elementary and middle schools are available at http://www.op97.org/business-office/food-service. During the 2022-23 school year, students may:

• Bring a nut-free lunch from home.

• Order school lunch.

PLEASE NOTE: During the 2022-23 school year, all students will be required to pay for their breakfast and lunch meals unless they are directly approved by the State of Illinois or approved after completing the 2022-23 Free and Reduced Meal Application.

Process for Reporting Positive COVID-19 Cases to D97 Schools
If a student or staff member tests positive for COVID-19, they must complete the following steps:

1) In order to notify the school nurse and receive a return-to-school date, families/staff must complete the confidential COVID-19 Positive Case Notification Form as soon as possible following the positive test. Information provided will also be shared with the Oak Park Department of Public Health.

2) Families must continue to report student absences via the school attendance line, and staff must enter their absences in Frontline.
