Thank you to all of our families and friends who attended the Education Week celebrations last Wednesday. It took a lot of resilience to make it through the weather conditions but we soldiered on and had many visitors who joined us to enjoy the day. There were lots of great activities happening in classrooms, including maths games, writing activities, art activities, literacy groups, robot making and science lessons. These lessons were a showcase of the many learning experiences students take part in at school. The BBQ was a hit, with thanks going to Mr Schwartzman and Mr Cameron for cooking. Our dance groups and the Hippopotamus Choir were very entertaining at the assembly. The dance groups looked amazing in their costumes. An enormous thanks to Colleen Fraser (Mrs Bragg's mother), Nicole Ngapoula, Kylie Jordan and her mother, for the many hours they have spent making these wonderful costumes and props. They really add a special element to the dances and we are very appreciative of the time and effort that has been spent to create them.
Good luck to the many students who are attending the ESPSSA Zone Athletics Carnival today at ES Marks Field. Students will be competing in track events, as well as some high jump, long jump, shot put and discus events. Those events that are not scheduled for today will be held on the second day of the carnival in a couple of weeks time.
Ms Hoskins
Acting Principal
Don't forget the important events this week:
* No assembly on Wednesday due to the Spelling Bee Final
* No PSSA this week
* Showcase rehearsal and ticket money due this week
* Please check your child's bag for their School Photo envelope which is being sent home this week
* It would be appreciated if all invoices could be finalised before the end of the term please
Dogs @ School and School Events
The Department of Education has regulations that state that no dogs are allowed on school property. Please refrain from bringing dogs through the school gates.
Dogs are also not permitted at any school event, including ESPSSA events such as Friday sport and Zone carnivals. Please do not bring your dog to these events.
Uniform
Over the past several weeks, there has been a decline in the look of our school uniform, with many students wearing items of clothing to school that are not correct uniform. Could all parents and caregivers please ensure their child wears correct school uniform each day, including school hats, jumpers, polo shirt, coloured socks or stockings, and black shoes. When students take pride in their appearance at school, it can have a positive impact on their application to their learning. It also enhances the community look and feel of our school. School photos will be held in Week 6 and it is expected that all students will wear correct uniform, including black school shoes.
If your child is missing a jumper, please look in the Lost Property bins (located outside the Basement or in the Office area) as there are many unclaimed jumpers. Please also ensure you write your child's name clearly on the tag of their clothing so it can be returned to them if found. If your child is wearing a pre-loved jumper, please ensure you cross out the previous owner's name so that it can be returned to the correct owner.
Issues or Conflict
From time to time, students may experience conflict between their friends or other students. Often these can be managed informally, with some issues even resolving themselves after a couple of days. If your child does report a problem they are having at school to you, please encourage them to talk to their teacher who will be able to assist them in resolving it. Alternatively, you may like to make an appointment to discuss the matter with your child's class teacher. At no time should a parent approach another child to discuss events that have occurred, nor should these private matters involving children be discussed in the playground or on social media.
Dance News
Showcase @ the Juniors is next week.
Next Monday, 15th August is the rehearsal day at Souths Juniors. The dancers will travel by bus to Souths and return during the day. The show is next Tuesday evening, 16th August. Costumes will be sent home with the children so that they can be worn to Souths on the night. Parents who are able to assist with hair and make up next week are most welcome. Please meet between 12-3pm on Tuesday in the old hall near the office. The children meet the teachers at 6pm inside the Club on Level 2, in the foyer outside the auditorium.
Tickets for the show will be ready to collect from the school office from this Wednesday. Mrs Bragg will send a note home on Tuesday with your ticket allocation so you will know how much you will need to pay before collecting your ticket. If you have not returned your permission note and $8 for bus travel for the rehearsal, please do so this week. We would like to thank the generous support of the P & C who have assisted with some of the cost of the bus travel to Souths.
