At Spectra Bio Labs, we believe that an investment in the future of biotechnology is the most valuable contribution that we could make. For us, that means empowering the next generation of scientists by equipping them with the knowledge and skills necessary to stand out and pursue fruitful careers in science and technology. To do so, we at Spectra Bio Labs have created ScienceReach technical courses for high school/college students and professional development for anyone motivated to pursue opportunities in the sciences.

The ScienceReach curriculum aims to provide hands on scientific training and professional laboratory exposure to students. The courses are taught by biotechnology professionals with industry and academic experience. Here are a few features of the Spectra Bio Labs ScienceReach program:

· Spectra Bio Labs is centrally located in Sorrento Valley

· Hands on training in small classes

· Classes are conducted by trained professionals with academic and industry experience.

· Students will work directly with professional-grade analytical equipment

· Students will be taught the techniques for the analysis and testing of common macromolecules (protein/DNA)

· With the experience gained at ScienceReach, students are better equipped to explore internship opportunities in biotechnology and other sciences

Note:

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, we at Spectra plan to start the courses from July 2020 instead of June 2020. The courses will be conducted in July if the environment is conducive and safe for the students and Spectra Bio Lab staff. In case the classes are cancelled, Spectra will either refund the registration fees in full or the registered students can opt to get the first preference to select the classes of their interests in the future.

Established in 1986, Columbia University's Summer Program for High School Students combines academic rigor and instructional excellence with careful supervision and support within Columbia’s interactive online learning platform. UC San Diego Qualcomm Institute’s Big Data Summer Camps provide aspiring young data scientists an immersive educational experience using cutting-edge approaches to Big Data. These pre-college summer camps are designed for students with interests in data analytics and visualization, artificial intelligence and machine learning, and how these fields and approaches assist in discovering and evaluating predictive models. The summer camps are each a week long and will introduce participants to the use of data and tools related to Big Data ecosystem.

Session 1 & Session 2. Students will learn the basic math, visualization and methods behind data science and will work on team projects with classmates using real life examples. Over the course of the week, the content will build in complexity and difficulty, and will include strategies for data visualization and model development and evaluation. No programming experience or knowledge is required. Additionally, invited guests from academia and industry will give presentations to expose the students to various data science application domains. Students can enroll in either Session 1 or Session 2.

Advanced Session. Advanced Session builds on the basics learned in the introductory sessions. Enrolling in Advanced Session (August 3-7) requires concurrent enrollment in Session 1 (June 15-19) or Session 2 (July 27-31). Students who have taken Big Data Summer Camp in past years also qualify.

The National Institute of American History & Democracy (NIAHD) is proud to host the Pre-College Program in American History at William & Mary.

This unique program offers high school students an opportunity to live and study at William & Mary for three weeks during the summer. Students will earn 4 hours of transferable college credit studying American history right where it happened.

What sets the program apart from your typical history class is that students travel daily to the museums, battlefields, archaeological sites, homes, and places where history lives. They will talk with professional historians and curators, and learn not only the history of America but what's being done to preserve it. Students also participate in an active archaeological dig and get their hands dirty looking for 18th-century artifacts.

A background in American history is not required, however, an open mind, independent thinking, creativity, and a spirit of adventure are essential.

Fir Acres is a two-week residential summer creative writing program for talented 10th, 11th, and 12th graders. Discover Studio Art is an intensive experience that allows young artists an opportunity to engage with new and innovative art while thinking critically about what makes it art and developing their individual artistic voice. Students 14 to 17 years old participate in a series of workshops and critiques led by CalArts faculty and alumni, attend artist talks and screenings, explore methods and spend time in the studio developing skills and making art.

For 60 years, Syracuse University Summer College has been giving high school students the opportunity to learn about potential careers and college majors through its renowned pre-college program. WHAT IS RANGE CAMP?

Range Camp is a week long program that has been organized by members of the California-Pacific chapter of the Society for Range Management (“CalPac SRM”) for over 30 years. Our goal is to introduce high school students to the professional world of plant, animal, and landscape management. High school students can experience a unique college atmosphere and summer adventure by taking a course in the Augustana Summer Academy. Courses are from two to four days and take an active, hands-on approach within a close-knit learning community based on the beautiful Augustana campus. A two-week summer program led by over 100 faculty from the Rady Children’s Hospital- San Diego and other cutting edge healthcare organizations in the region.

• Lectures/Interactive Discussions about crucial topics in healthcare by medical professionals.

• Hands-on skills clinics to try basic techniques in orthopedics, emergency medicine and more.

• Group projects about public health challenges.
