Freshman Focus @ JCHS
September 7th-10th
Almost Midterms!!!!!
Parents, please ask your student how their grades are progressing. Students, please know your grades and ask your teachers for information on how to improve your current grade. If you have yet to create your parent portal account for Infinite Campus, please contact Johnson Central so you can actively monitor your grade book.
For freshmen, last week was very eye opening. The Johnson Central Student Lead Team created and conducted the Johnson Central Opportunity Fair. This fair highlighted the vast number of opportunities that are offered at Johnson Central. With 30 career and technical pathways available, their is also an organization that aligns to each and every student interest in the building. With approximately 35 different nationally recognized, competitive organizations or honors associations on display, at Johnson Central there is truly something for everyone!
Along with a great week of discovering opportunity, some Johnson Central freshman campaigned for class offices. The winners of those offices are as follows:
President- Ilana Estep
Vice President- Brooke Wallen
Secretary- Madelyn McGraw
Treasurer- Madison Goble
Look for these students to be featured in a new segment titled Student Spotlight in a future release of Freshman Focus.

Ashton Ross: Freshman Teacher Spotlight
Ashton Ross is a 2008 graduate of Johnson Central High School. During her time in high school, Mrs. Ross was a member of the high school marching band in which she played flute and piccolo and was the field commander for two years. She was also a member of the JCHS Players and the BETA club. She currently teaches English I, II, and III as well as a drama class. She is also the assistant director of the JCHS players. Ashton earned her bachelor’s degree in secondary English teaching from Eastern Kentucky University and a master’s degree in special education from University of the Cumberlands.
Ashton has always wanted to be a teacher. She grew up using leftover school supplies to teach her stuffed animals, dolls, and (her most begrudging student) her older brother. As a teenager, Ashton started helping with children’s church and Sunday school classes and continued in such roles into college. It only made sense to her that she would teach, and because of her great love for books and poetry, she chose to teach English.
Ashton is the wife of Justin Ross who also teaches at JCHS. Together Mr. and Mrs. Ross have two beautiful children: a daughter, Lilian, who is five, and a son, Joseph, who is two. Raising these two future Eagles has been their greatest blessing and honor in life.
When Mrs. Ross is not teaching English or wrangling toddlers, she enjoys crafting, reading, and catching up with friends over a cup of coffee.
