Bernardo Parent Bulletin #4

It was another amazing week at Bernardo! We hope that your children were excited to tell you about our first Friday Assembly and the new dance we learned. As you can tell from the first two weeks of school as well as all of the information below, there is always lots happening at Bernardo. We are extremely grateful for our amazing PTA and hope that even more parents will consider how they can be involved.

We know how much kids love to celebrate their birthdays and we are excited to honor them on their special day! Below are some guidelines and ideas when it comes to how birthdays can be celebrated at school:

• Consider goody bags with stickers, pencils, or small toys, that can be given to each student in the class.
• Your child's name can be listed up on our marquee for the week. Call our front office for more info.
• Per District policy, birthday food treats are not allowed to be consumed in class. Therefore, any cupcakes, cookies, or other treats that are brought in will be sent home with each of the students in the class at the end of the school day.
• Please save balloons or flowers for the end of the school day as they can become quite a distraction. If items are delivered to school during the day, we will keep them up in the front office until school dismisses.

For safety sake, we ask all parents to please adhere to the following procedures for student drop-off and pick-up:

• Only drop-off or pick-up students in the parking lot, not on the neighborhood streets where we do not have supervision.
  
• Please do not park at any red curbs or on the sidewalk side of Mountain Heights Drive at any time.
• Have your child exit on the side of the vehicle closest to the sidewalk so they don't have to walk in any traffic areas.
• Use the crosswalks and sidewalks and do not cut across the parking lot or grass.
• If crossing the street, please hold your child's hand.

We are thrilled that we were able to finally secure a Crossing Guard at the crosswalk that leads to the dirt lot at Bernardo Avenue and Oak Lane! The dirt lot is owned by a church that has been gracious enough to let our families use it for many years. If you use that lot, please be respectful of others and avoid blocking cars so that they cannot leave.

Everyone's cooperation is greatly appreciated to keep things safe and orderly so that we can continue to benefit from the use of the lot!

There are many streets around our school that are private roads, meaning the homeowners maintain them. We are asking our Bernardo families to be good neighbors and avoid using the private roads during drop-off or pick-up. Please use the dirt lot or our drive-thru lines where we have supervision as well as sidewalks for safe walking.

Our first PTA meeting of the year will take place on Wednesday, August 31 at 6:00 pm in our library. The meeting will also be on Zoom for those who would like to join virtually. Click here for the Zoom link.

Each month, our PTA holds a drawing to select one winner who gets to use the PTA-designated parking spot for the next month. The next drawing will be held on Friday, August 26th at 9 p.m. with the winner being announced at our Association meeting on Wednesday, August 31st. So if you haven't already, be sure to join the PTA today!

Bring the family by Menchie's on September 1st and a portion of the proceeds will come right back to our school. The PTA will be giving away some surprise gifts throughout the event time.

The Giving campaign is our annual fundraiser which helps us raise funds quickly in the beginning of the year. So far, our giving campaign has raised just over $1,500! We are hoping to be able to generate $10,000 as we begin the school year and thank you for considering how you or the company you work for may be able to contribute via the giving form below or through the TOTEM dashboard.

Fall Festival is just around the corner and we are in need of your support. As always this is a volunteer driven event. Volunteers can create booths or donate supplies (such as prizes for the carnival games). This year we are in need of assistance with obtaining lighting for the event.
