The second semester has been off to a great start! Last Friday, Student Council hosted its Winter Wonderland Fun Night. Each Fun Night Student Council works hard to plan, set up, and execute a great night for our students to enjoy. We always enjoy seeing the students in an environment outside the classroom. Fun Night is an excellent time for teachers and students to continue building rapport. During February, our Scholar Bowl teams will be in action, along with Track and Field beginning their season. We hope February is kind to all of you.

Hello families! I wanted to introduce myself and share a little about why I am assisting Mrs. Vandelft with these newsletters. I am currently a sixth-grade special education teacher and the Student Council Sponsor here at WMMS. In addition, I am a graduate student in the Educational Leadership program at Northwest Missouri State University. Integrated into the program are practicum experience hours. These experiences allow me to shadow, participate in, and facilitate various tasks around the school. Mrs. Vandelft has been kind enough to allow me to shadow her and partner with her in various principal tasks during third quarter.

Brandon Lee White, a motivational speaker, will present to our students the topic of “Owning it!” and anti-bullying. He encourages youth "to take ownership of what matters." We are excited to have him and how he can reach our students. If you have any questions, please let me know. You can check out his website www.brandonleewhite.com.

Our Scholar Bowl Team will be competing in two tournaments in February. Their first one is on February 4th at the Knox County Tournament of the Minds. Their second one is on February 11 at North Shelby JH Tournament. Please join us in cheering our students on! They will do great!

They will be performing Saturday, February 18th, at Moberly High School Auditorium after a full-day rehearsal. Please join us in congratulating them! We are KV Proud!

Track and Field season is upon us. Students in 7th and 8th grade can participate. The season officially begins on February 27th and continues until May 5th. Before track season, Coach Mayer is holding pre-season workouts for all grades. If your student is interested in joining these workouts, please fill out this form:

Thank you to all parents and guardians for contacting our office when your child is absent. We appreciate your communication and will gladly accept any physician notes for excused student absences. In addition to our daily attendance email/phone call, if your child becomes excessively absent, our office will mail home attendance letters to better communicate with our families. These letters will be used for excessive absences only to keep you informed. We will also be working in conjunction with the Adair County Juvenile Office to help ensure your child's success. We understand that sickness/injury, medical appointments, and family emergencies occur, so please continue to call or email our front office anytime your child is absent. Please see Kirksville R-III school board policy JED-AP9(1) for more information regarding student attendance.

The Complete Family Medicine CARES Center is a school-based health center formed in August 2019 through a partnership between the Kirksville R-III School District and Complete Family Medicine, a service of Hannibal Regional Healthcare System. “CARES” stands for “Care At R-III for Every Student”.

Purpose: To provide accessible and affordable urgent/walk-in and preventative/well health services on-site at the school district’s campus to students, faculty, and staff. Students will not be able to be seen at the center without the consent from their parent/guardian.

Location: The center is located in the northwest corner of the Kirksville Area Technical Center (KATC) at 1103 South Cottage Grove. Using the north entrance to the building, the CARES Center lobby is the first door on the right. There will be limited, designated patient parking west of the entrance.

Hours of Operation: 7:30am-4:30pm Monday-Friday

Some of the Services Provided at the CARES Center: Urgent/Walk-in care, Preventative Care, Wellness Visits, Immunizations (free for medicaid eligible and uninsured students through VFC and billed as normal for commercial), Flu Vaccine, Sports Physicals, Point-of-Care Testing (ie - Rapid Strep and Influenza Testing), can arrange for COVID testing if needed.

Updated Email: Progress reports, grade cards, and monthly newsletters are all emailed home. Let us know if you have a new email address. You are able to update this through the Parent Portal as well.
