Friday at the Rock!
PWHS students: Friday, Nov. 1, will be the start of Friday at the Rock! The first Friday of every month will showcase a different theme during the lunch period. This Friday, our theme will be "Tailgate at the Rock." The kitchen staff and Mrs. Barb Ingles have worked hard to provide a tailgating experience for your enjoyment. The cheerleaders will 'kick off' the lunch period event with other entertainment provided by our own Portsmouth West students. Bring your good moods, your best school spirit, and be prepared for a fun-filled tailgate party with your friends. We'll see you Friday for our first Friday at the Rock!
October Academics
Mrs. Bazler's and Mr. Ralstin's Biology/Anatomy students have been learning about the structures and functions of the cell membrane. Teletubbie Tinky-Winky (aka junior Marion Phillips pictured left with Bryson Hall) is quite perplexed with the concept of Active Transport (cells use energy to move things in and out of the cell membrane to maintain homeostasis).
Girls Soccer "Kick for the Cure"
The Girls Soccer team (pictured below middle) wore pink jerseys and played a "Kick For The Cure Game" against Fairland Oct. 7. The game was competitive with Fairland getting the 2-1 win. Preslee Jenkins scored the lone Senators offensive goal. After the game, The Lady Senators donated concession sales, half of the gate fee, and "split the pot" fee to make a total donation of $138.00 to the SOMC Compassion Fund. This was the second year in a row that the Lady Senators participated in the "Kick For The Cure Game," and they donated over $100.00 last year as well. To participate, the team had to request special permission from the OHSAA to allow them to wear the Pink Jerseys for the game. The team ended their season October 12 with a 2-0 loss to Chesapeake in the Sectional Tournament. The Lady Senators had 22 girls on the team including three seniors (pictured below) - Madison Howard, Brooke Kazee, and Lexy Quirasco.

Cross Country season comes to an end
Seniors Randy Patrick and Ben Dubiel (pictured below middle) were the PWHS Boys Cross Country Team captains for the 2019 season. Boys coach, Larry Goodwin stated, "Their dedication to the program made running contagious to the rest of the team and they were the driving force behind our success and improvement over the past two seasons. I want to send out a special thanks to these very special students of the 2020 graduation class."
"The 2019 Boys Cross Country Team made great improvements during the season. They exhibited high level of work ethic despite enduring a very hot fall season. We practiced and competed the majority of the season in temperatures above 90 degrees," said Goodwin.

The two lone runners for the 2019 Girls Cross Country Team - coached by Julie Conrad - were sophomore Sharon Macias and senior Emily Sissel (pictured below right).

Our team participated in a game day warm up and team intro to the Doyt Perry Stadium. They, also, performed for the crowd at halftime. The Division 1 BGSU Falcons came up short against the Central Michigan Chippewas in the ESPN televised game, but the girls had an awesome game day experience!
