What is a magnet school? What opportunities will my child have to learn about magnet schools in Northside? How and when might students and families visit a magnet school they are interested in attending? The information in this newsletter will address these questions, as well as direct you towards resources the district has provided to enhance understanding of the magnet school programs of study and application process.
Hobby Magnet
Hobby Magnet School offers unique English Language Arts and Science courses along with specialty Career and Technical Education (CTE) courses that expose students to the Health Science fields of therapeutic services, diagnostic services, health informatics, support services and biotechnology research and development. Magnet students are enrolled in multiple advanced courses and have enhanced opportunities to earn high school credit while still in middle school.

Jones Magnet School creates authentic learning experiences whereby students come to think like engineers and scientists. Every student will be exposed to the world of STEM careers. Jordan Magnet School, Northside’s newest magnet school offers a specialized focus on Multimedia and Design, providing an unparalleled educational experience for students. Our program integrates hands-on instruction in Animation, Graphic Design, Audio/Video Production, and Commercial Photography. Through collaborative design challenges, students work in teams across the magnet, and they will also have the opportunity to take a uniquely designed Digital Art course.

Zachry Magnet
Zachry Magnet School is focused on the growing industries of Cybersecurity, Global Communications and Information Technology including CyberPatriot competitions and Junior Model UN simulations. Our program aligns for further study at NISD high schools in cybersecurity, web development, and information technology. Our innovative learning spaces include a model Intermediate Distribution Framework room, collaborative areas, and our unique “learning-stairs.”

Counselors can guide students through the magnet school application process, for students to apply to their school(s) of choice, should they choose to do so.
For students to be considered for acceptance at one of the NISD magnet high schools, they must fill out the magnet school online application. Here are some important dates in the application process.
