Principal's Message
Welcome to the start of the 2022-2023 school year! We have missed seeing our students and families during the summer, but hope that you have had time to relax and enjoy the beautiful weather that we have been having. During the summer, Hueneme has been busy with construction work. Most of the campus has undergone the work for HVAC and all of our electrical and fire alarm work has been complete. Our main office is still undergoing work and it scheduled to be done the week that school begins. We hope to be back in the main office by the end of August.
Temporary Office and Hours: Currently, our office is located in Room 12. The best way to get to Room 12 is at the middle gate on 3rd Street- just past the flagpole. Once you are in the gate, make a right up the steps. Room 12 is the first door on your right. Beginning Tuesday, August 9th our office will be open daily from 7:30-4:00. Thank you for your patience as we navigate our temporary office space.
Class Postings: This year Hueneme will not post our class lists as we have in previous years. Instead, we are inviting our families to stop by on Thursday, August 18th to pick up the first day packet, an at home Covid-19 test, and at that time students will know who their teacher will be for the coming year. Please see the flyer link to find out the times to stop by the school.
School Supplies: Many of the school supplies your student needs will be given to them here at our school. If families wish to buy supplies for home that is up to each family to decide. Please provide your student with a backpack and lunch bag (if they plan to bring lunch from home).
Construction Update: Please pardon our dust! You may have noticed that Hueneme is undergoing some construction! We are in the process of bringing new HVAC units to every classroom on campus. They are also updating the electrical and making campus safer with a new fire alarm system. We hope to have the majority of the project completed by late August. Our contractors will still be on campus once school starts, but most of the work will be done after school hours and on weekends. We hope to have these units up and running by late fall.
Safety First: Safety is important in and around our school! Many cars stop in the middle of the streets to let their children out of the car or for students to get into cars. There is limited parking at Hueneme and drop off and pick up gets busy! Please do your very best to find a parking spot. This puts our students and families in danger when they run out into the street. In addition, this also holds up the traffic that are also trying to pick up. If we all do our part, I know we can get to and from school safely! Thank you in advance for your help!
Entering School: For the 2022-2023 school year, we will have BOTH GATES OPEN as in past years. If your child is having breakfast, please have them enter at the back cafeteria gate from 7:35-7:55. Upper grade students can enter that gate as well. Primary students are welcome to enter on the Clara St. gate. The Clara St. gate opens at 7: 35. Both gates close promptly at 8:00. Late arrivals should report to the office for a tardy slip.
There is NO supervision prior the gate opening. Please do not drop students off earlier than 7:35. Thank you!
