Caldwell School District Update
From Superintendent Dr. N. Shalene French
May 11, 2023
Message from the Superintendent
Dear Parents and Guardians,
As we approach the end of the school year, thank you for the opportunity to serve your children. It is a privilege to attend year-end events celebrating our youth, and it is also a poignant reminder of what is most important.
Our vision for schools is that every child achieves success, feels safe, and finds joy in learning. We want to create an environment where a sense of belonging and community is fostered and "inspires collaboration". Our goal is to intentionally design experiences that develop student confidence and competence. Ultimately, we are striving to create schools that equip all children with the tools and attitudes necessary for them to make positive life choices, thrive in our rapidly changing world, and contribute to our democratic ideals.
We realize how fortunate we are to be a part of a community that values our youth, their education, and believes in preserving traditions that create cherished memories of friendship and learning. We appreciate all of your support and dedication throughout this school year.
Best wishes for a rejuvenating summer,
Dr. N. Shalene French
CHS Class of 2023 Honors Reception
Congratulations to Caldwell High School's Academic Honors Graduates.
CHS recognizes the "Top 10" senior honor students each year. This year, these graduates have a cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of 4.05.
Caldwell High School also recognizes high-honors graduates who have a GPA of 3.5 or higher. This year, 42 seniors will be recognized for this achievement. In addition, 33 seniors will receive Advanced Placement recognition, while eight seniors will receive a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) diploma, and nine seniors will receive a Career Technical Education (CTE) diploma.
Principal Wilson says the Class of 2023 has persevered through a lot of trials and tribulations in their four years of high school, yet continued to dedicate themselves to their studies. "The Class of 2023 has shown great resilience," said Wilson. "They had to deal with a lot in their first years of high school, and they have been able to overcome that while still being able to enjoy everything that high school has to offer and getting the most out of their education."
Congratulations to all! The future is bright here in Caldwell.
Summer Bridge Academy
Are you ready for the K-8 Summer Bridge Academy?
The Caldwell School District will be offering extended learning opportunities for students this summer.
The Summer Bridge Academy is an opportunity for students to enrich their learning. Teachers prepare interactive activities for K-8 students. Special classes will also be offered for students transitioning from fifth grade to middle school or from eighth grade to high school in order to give students a chance to learn more about their new school prior to the start of classes in the fall.
Watch for more information from your child's school about the Summer Bridge Academy.
Welcoming Heather Ehlschide
There will be a new principal walking the halls at Syringa Middle School this fall. Ms. Heather Ehlschide has been selected to lead the students and staff of SMS.
"As I embark on this exciting new chapter, I look forward to working closely with the Syringa Middle School community to create a bright future for every student," said Ehlschide.
We invite you to celebrate with the SMS students, staff, and families in welcoming Ms. Ehlschide.
Community Schools
The Community Schools Strategy here in Caldwell helps identify opportunities for kids and families and how to best connect them to one another. It's a way of supporting students, families, school staff, and the community in and out of the classroom.
Farmworker Appreciation
While it may not always be on our minds, farmworkers impact our lives everyday by providing access to healthy food. Their hard work and effort is an example to each and every one of us. We are grateful for their support and for the role models they are to all of us.
Wilson Elementary Digital News Club
We have some up and coming journalists at Wilson Elementary School. This year Wilson launched a Digital News Club. Ms. Ferrell's fifth grade students have the opportunity to help write, produce, film, and edit a monthly news report about events and interesting stories happening at their school.

Cinco de Mayo Celebrations
Last week, students at Sacajawea and Lewis & Clark Elementary School had the opportunity to celebrate Cinco de Mayo with the Mariachi Sol de Acapulco band (some of the band members are Caldwell alum). Students were invited to dance and sing along.
Thank you to Caldwell Fine Arts for sponsoring both of these events!
