Flu Season is Upon Us
As we all know, the flu is a contagious disease that causes symptoms such as fever, headache, fatigue, cough, nasal congestion, sore throat, and body aches.
Flu outbreaks can occur as early as October and last as late as May. The best way to prevent the flu is to get vaccinated every year, but good health habits like covering your cough and washing your hands help stop the spread of germs and prevent respiratory illnesses like the flu.

November's Character Education topic is Self-discipline
During the month of November, our character education focus is self-discipline. Students should journal about it during homeroom and it will be beneficial to have talks about this important topic at home.
October was National Bullying Prevention Month
Children who are bullied can experience negative social, emotional, academic and health issues. When children are bullied, they are more likely to experience depression and anxiety, increased feeling of sadness and loneliness.
BCMAR has committed to harboring a safe and healthy learning environment for everyone.
During the month of October, our campus adapted tangible representations to make an awareness of bullying that our scholars could make a connection while having fun.
Here at BCMAR, we entice families of our students to join us in this nationwide battle to prevent all types of bullying. Technology has added to an increased amount in cyberbullying at the school-age level.
Below is a link to some helpful tips to parents and guardians of middle school students.

BCMAR's "Super Teachers" are dedicated to delivering quality instruction
This particular learning objective for Ms. Emsley's Language Arts and Reading class was to be able to read/identify elements of stories, and to learn how to create a strong analysis about authors craft or authors purpose for the importance of sharing one's story and understanding to others. Ms. Emsley's students are engaging with a variety of narratives, such as memoirs, autobiographies, personal narratives and more. The students are using audiobooks, canvas, edpuzzle, along with interactive notebooks to be able to build their stamina for writing. Some students chose to read autobiographies about famous scientists or doctors. This semester, scholars will be working on independent reading projects and writing their own narrative stories. Learning this is important because students will be able to comprehend what they are reading and know how to look at data and evidence to be able to find contextual meaning. By being required to share their stories, students will learn how to build collaborative communities.
