Language Selection Choice for Incoming Sixth Graders
Believe it or not, it’s time to start thinking about next year… and the two years after that! The 6th grade French and Spanish teachers talked to your child recently about the World Language program in grades 6-8 at Oak Grove. Your child has a choice of two languages: Spanish and French. Both languages start at a Level 1 in sixth grade. Your child will have a language class each day of the week as a regular core class for 42 minutes (similar to a science or math class). Once they choose a language, the student will continue with that language through 8th grade. Please talk to your child about the choice, then fill out THIS VERY SHORT FORM and submit it. PLEASE RESPOND BY FRIDAY, MARCH 23rd so we can begin planning for the next school year!
If you'd like more information about these classes, please watch these short videos:

Gala 2018: Thank you for your support!
Thank you to the Oak Grove families, teachers, staff, donors, sponsors and volunteers that came together to support the Oak Grove Gala 2018 last month. From the live and silent auctions and wine toss game, to dancing and those flambé donuts, it was truly a memorable night! We were very successful in our endeavor to raise funds to support enhancements to the science curriculum for grades K-8. Funds will be used to purchase additional lab equipment, bring supplementary science instruction to the younger grades, expose our kids to more visual and hands on lessons, and much more!
Please visit our website to see our full list of volunteers (http://www.ogsef.org/gala-2018-volunteers1.html), sponsors (http://www.ogsef.org/gala-2018-sponsors.html) and donors (http://www.ogsef.org/auction-donors1.html) – we could not have done it without you. Also, be sure to check out our Facebook Page (@ogsfoundation) to view photos from the evening!

Social Emotional Learning (SEL)
Do you remember those lyrics growing up? Recently, I came across a recording of a childhood favorite of mine and maybe yours! Mr. Rogers spoke to Congress about why public television should be funded, BUT what I heard was his calling for SEL lessons 50 years ago! He gives permission for children to feel angry, scared or afraid. He explains that at any moment we can feel these strong emotions but we have the ability to stop our negative plans that might be forming in our head. We can CHOOSE how we react to these STRONG emotions!
This week we will be focusing on anger and how to calm down, but if you have a few minutes to watch this video, I think you will enjoy it. It's about 7 minutes long, but you can zoom forward to about 3 minutes in and you'll get the most important part! Enjoy!

You've made this day a special day by just your being you. There's no person in the whole world like you and I like you, just the way you are! ~ Mr. Rogers, 1969
