From the Library
Did you remember to give a friend or neighbor a basket of flowers or treats, ring their doorbell and run away? I remember doing this to my grandma every year. This was always a school project. We would keep our milk cartons (I assume the teacher was the one who rinsed them out), decorate them, then take them home where Mom would help find little candies to put in the carton and I would write a little note. Good memories!
In today’s world, the beginning of May means “time to get the books back.” Starting May 1, there will be no more checking out books from the school library unless it is for curriculum purposes. The Bookmobile is making their last stop of the school year on May 4, and unless you want to return State Library books to Bismarck yourself, those books should be returned to the school library ASAP also. Overdue book notices from all three entities will be arriving in the mail, if need be. Sad times.
There is good news though! All Wilton students have access to our digital library, library2go. This is a service offered through the Bookmobile. It has thousands of magazines, eBooks, audiobooks and videos that students can check out from any device that has internet access. If your child does not know their login information, please contact me and I will get it for you. The Bookmobile usually makes monthly visits to Wilton during the summer. When I get that schedule, I will post it on the school’s website. So there are still opportunities to read. Happy times!
Libraries are supposed to be a place of community. If you are looking for free activities for you and your family this summer, I would encourage you to keep abreast of activities occurring in nearby town libraries. Here is a link to the Bismarck Veteran’s Library home page. Scroll down just a little bit and you will see their monthly calendar. https://www.bismarcklibrary.org/ Check it often, as they have lots of activities each month, summer or not. Fun times!
As for myself, I do not foresee making May Day baskets this year. The last one I received was during COVID. A very good neighbor dropped off a surprise on my deck, then ran away. I was not able to catch them, but I know who they were (and if you’re reading this, you know who you are, too)! It made my day that day. Someday I will either repay that favor or pay it forward. I encourage you all to make someone’s day this May 1st. Even if it’s a hand-written note taped to their door. It doesn’t cost anything to make someone else smile. Have a great summer everyone!
