What's Happening at Griffis

As we begin a new 2023 semester we would like to wish a very Happy New Year to our Griffis families! We also want to welcome our new students and families to Griffis. We trust you had a wonderful winter break with family and friends. We are excited and hopeful for this semester. This is when we see the most growth in our students and new goals accomplished. We look forward to our UIL Academic Competition on January 20th. Our students and coaches have been working hard to get ready for their events. We want to achieve our goal of continuing to bring home that championship trophy! We are proud of our students and staff for exceeding expectations first semester. We look forward to a great spring semester.

Our next scheduled Parent Lunch on the Lawn is Friday, January 6th!

Lunch times are listed below. You may bring food for your child or they can get a tray from the cafeteria. You may park in the front or back of Griffis and enter by the soccer fields. Please arrive early so that you have plenty of time to get settled in before your child’s lunch time. We are looking forward to seeing you!

If the weather does not permit, the lunch will not be rescheduled and will resume the next month.

Attendance is important to us. Here are a few reminders when your child is sick and misses school.

• Students must be fever free without fever reducers and free from vomiting and diarrhea for 24 hours before returning to school.
• If a child is sent home by the nurse before 9:45 AM a note must be sent for that day and any other additional days that were missed the day of returning to school.
• If a child misses more than 5 consecutive days of school a note from the doctor or clinic must be provided.

Due to the district hosting our elementary Academic UIL Competition, we will release early January 20. Buses will follow the early release schedule below. Lunch forms will be sent home at a later date.

January 20 is UIL Competition Day for Griffis. Students participating in UIL will not release early and will begin events. More information will be sent home at a later date with the schedule.

Griffis PTO invites you to participate in the Hot Chocolate 1 mile run. The run will take place on Friday, 1/13 at 7:15 AM. The route will go through the Caddo Downs neighborhood located behind Griffis. Students, parents and community members are invited to participate. Please complete this registration form for EACH participant. Cash or check only as a form of payment. Send money to the Griffis PE Department with labeled registration names. Make checks payable to Griffis PTO. Early Registration includes a T-shirt and Hot Chocolate. Registration due 12/16 to guarantee t-shirt. Day of registration available, t-shirt not included.

Students not in the building by the 8:00 A.M. bell are considered tardy. Please refer to our campus handbook regarding our tardy policy. If your child is tardy, please do not drop your child off. For their safety, your child should be signed in. Please come to the front to sign them in.

The Watch D.O.G.S. Program brings male role models such as dads, stepdads, grandpas, uncles, etc. into the school for the betterment of the school, the students, and the community!!

Each month, we will focus on a particular character trait. Mrs. Wygal will give daily announcements regarding that trait to help the students put it into action. Each month, teachers will be looking for positive referrals from their class that they feel has best demonstrated the monthly trait. The trait for the month of January is Knowledge.
