Pooled Testing Update
The Los Altos School District has been offering pooled asymptomatic COVID-19 testing on all campuses at all grade levels once weekly for those students who would like to participate. Although case rates have remained low, the pooled testing offers an early detection opportunity to keep students and staff safe and healthy when asymptomatic cases arise.
To date, we have had 2 positive pooled tests, in which one positive case was identified through follow up testing. A testament to our strict adherence to public health protocols, no additional cases occurred in these classrooms, another sign that COVID cases are remaining isolated and not spreading in our schools.
Superintendent Baier also updated the Board about the Governor's recent announcement of a vaccine requirement for students once the FDA has provided full approval. In addition, school staff who have not yet become fully vaccinated. At present, those staff members who are not yet fully vaccinated may instead provide proof of a negative COVID-19 test once weekly. In LASD, over 90% of our staff and approximately 85% of eligible students are fully vaccinated.

Student Performance Data Spring 2021
The Board received a full analysis of Spring 2021 student performance data based on academic assessments in English Language Arts and mathematics. Overall, student performance is on-track with prior years, and the vast majority of our students are performing at or above grade level. Eighty-six percent of students are performing at or above grade level in English Language arts and 87% are performing at or above grade level in mathematics.
Our schools use this student performance data to provide an individualized educational experience for our students. We identify students requiring additional support and those who need additional challenges to continue progressing and excelling.
We believe our approach to education during the pandemic is reflected in strong student performance on these Spring 2021 assessments. While many districts are reporting learning loss, our student assessment reflects data that is in line with prior years.
Our instructional team of teachers, academic specialists and principals will continue to work with all students to ensure every one of them is successful.
