Upcoming Dates
Martin Luther King Day, No school-Monday January 15, 2024
Principally speaking
This week was great to be back, hearing and seeing our students back in Lincoln was wonderful, although the week was cut short due to weather. Next week, the temperatures are expected to plummet, please make sure your child is dressed appropriately, if tempertures are above freezing-0 Degrees celsius we do still go outdoors for recess. This is an Illinois law, and also great practice to get kids outdoors in fresh air and moving. I anticipate having to remain indoors for potentially a few days since the forecast is brutal cold. On Tuesday we plan to have students work on posters/banners for upcoming Peace week, and if we have another day that we are indoors kids will play board games indoors.
Finally, a lot was communicated from the district this week related to next year. Monday the district shared the adjusted start and end time for all schools. The largest shift is for elementary students, I am sharing the link here of those times, which does not begin until August of 2024. On Thursday the district held a webinar presented by Rob Schwartz, from RSP and associated on boundary updates. Following the webinar, the District distributed a new survey asking for feedback on the updated scenarios. This survey will be open from January 11 from 6:30 pm through January 15 at noon. The survey will be published on the Boundary Updates website and communications platforms, and direct notifications will be sent to families. Please note that the updated survey will include new scenarios that may impact families not impacted by the original scenarios presented in November.
Please know, information about boundaries is always readily available on our forward facing Boundary Updates site.
iReady Mid-Year Diagnostic results
Yesterday I shared a letter from our assessment office but some of the links were not working correctly. I am including the contents of that letter below, but also a link to the district website that houses all our assessment and iReady information. In order to see your students winter diagnostic results, you can use the directions included in this link, also included in the letter below.
Dear Parents/Guardians:
The i-Ready Mid-year diagnostic assessments window has been completed. Testing took place between December 5th - December 15th. Please follow the link below for instruction on how to access your student's results via their i-Ready dashboard.
If your child took a fall diagnostic assessment you will see the fall to winter scores. More information about i-Ready is available at https://district.d303.org/departments/assessment. Scroll to quick links, or the i-Ready section, to find more information about the i-Ready system.
i-Ready diagnostic assessments are computer-based assessments that adjust to each child’s mathematics and reading ability levels, and provides students with practice lessons at their level based on the results of the diagnostic assessments. These are found in the MyPath section of i-Ready.
The assessment data is to help understand where your child is in relation to grade level standards, provide for practice and assignments at your child’s academic level, and monitor academic growth this school year.
If you have questions regarding your child’s scores, please feel free to contact your child’s teacher or building principal. You are also welcome to contact me at 331.228.4911 or david.chiszar@d303.org.
Sincerely,
David Chiszar

Watch DOGS interact and play with all of the students during the recess times for K-5. The time commitment is from 11:30AM-1:00PM. Lincoln Reminders
Pick up and drop off procedures
The car line on the north side of the building is for drop off, please do not park your car and get out. If you feel like your child needs assistance getting out of their car seat or you need to get out during the process please park your car in the library lot and you can walk them over to the door.
When picking up for an appointment early
If your son or daughter needs to leave school mid-day for an appointment, please understand that we will not call your child down to the office until you are here. Time in school is very limited and every moment counts, once you are here we will call them and promptly have them come down to leave with you, but we do not want to call ahead because often they are missing valuable instruction waiting for the pick up due to unforeseen circumstances. Thank you for understanding.
A Message from Ms. Semenek
Dear Lincoln families,
Please note the following in order for your child to safely and actively participate in PE this year:
Tennis Shoes must be worn. No sandals, slick-soled shoes, rubber spikes, clogs, boots, heels, or croc-type shoes. These shoes are not safe for activity!
Shorts or Pants are appropriate for the gym. Shorts and leggings are recommended underneath skirts/dresses).
Illnesses or Injuries that would prevent your child from participating in PE should be explained in a note from you. A doctor’s excuse is necessary for any child missing more than three days of gym.
Weather is changing, so please send your child to school in layers (sweaters/jackets) recommended as we will be going outside even throughout the winter months.
Please feel free to contact me with questions or concerns. Thank you for your cooperation.
Ms. Semenek
