History
EC Glass Celebrates Black History Month 2021
This year EC Glass, under the leadership of new assistant principal Jason Giambrone, took a unique approach in the celebration of the accomplishments of African Americans. Each week the team pushed out a variety of presentations connected to the theme "Black History is American History." Many of the ECG faculty and staff participated in the weekly virtual presentations, including a montage of testimonials about the importance of Black History. Other topics included a video on the development of Black American Sign Language. Based on each week's exit tickets more than 20% of the student population showed engagement each week. On the ECG display monitors a variety of Black History facts were displayed and individual teachers did lessons and activities in their classrooms. The culmination of the Black History event was the singing of the Black National Anthem by ECG senior Kiesha Bennett while images of past and present Black History events played in a video slideshow.
The ECG Black History month committee is focused on making next year an even better event. They will begin the planning stages for next year in April and will meet throughout the school year.

Science
The science department has entered into a partnership with WSET and the meteorology (weather) department to install and utilize a wireless weather station at EC Glass High School. This weather station will collect weather data in real-time, including lightning for athletic events. That data will be used by the students to record and manipulate and will help predict the weather and/or become predictors of the weather.. They will then learn how to utilize the data collected to become better at using the data than the meteorologists. LOL. WSET will utilize the weather station as another data collection location, which will make their data more accurate and provide a community service to those in the EC Glass High School attendance area. A big thank you to Mr. Geldmaker for spending his time and experience to coordinate this project. Also, thank you to the IT and maintenance departments for their expertise in the planning of the installation, and to Mr. Mabery and Ms. Flaugher for their initial and continued support of this project.

AP Test Schedule
Please click on the link below for the AP testing schedule.
*Thursday, May 20 - Due by 11:59 P.M.--- Seminar & Research performance tasks
Final digital submissions of AP Art/Design portfolios.
By LCS policy, unless there are mitigating circumstances that may warrant an exception, tests will be given to all students by the above schedule. Based on the start times of noon & 4:00 PM, we anticipate most students will choose to take digital exams at home. However, any student who needs to take a digital exam at Glass should contact Mrs. Wise. The same is true for any student who may need to choose a different test option (either Administration 1, which is all pencil & paper, or Administration 3, which is mostly digital and takes place in June. Visit apcentral.collegeboard.org for all days and times of each Test Administration. Any student who needs to test during a different administration or at school for a digital test should please contact Mrs. Wise via email at wiselw@lcsedu.net or by phone at (434)515-5370, ext. 34029 by March 5.
Please note, this year’s digital tests are full 3 hour tests (same format as the pencil & paper tests) and run on a different platform than last year’s “emergency” tests. Thus, digital testing will not present the types of issues some students encountered last year.
Parents, please see AP Letter from LCS concerning this year’s AP Test Administration for more information. This letter should have also been posted to all Google Classrooms of AP Teachers.

Attendance
Regular Attendance
Regular attendance helps our students excel in learning.
Lynchburg City Schools is checking student attendance on a daily basis. We need all of our students, whether they are remote learners or in-person (hybrid) learners, to be involved with school every day.
Parents, guardians, and families, you are essential partners in promoting good school attendance even in this most challenging time. When a student misses one day or one lesson, that means they may have missed something critical to their understanding of the next several days of instruction.
High schools will be checking attendance each day using a daily attendance question. Beginning Monday, November 2, hybrid AND remote-only students will be required to log into their Homeroom Google Classroom each day by 3:00 p.m. and respond to the Daily Attendance Question.
If students do not complete the daily attendance check-in as outlined above, beginning the week of November 2, 2020, families will receive an automated phone call letting them know that their student was marked absent on the previous day. If the student or family believes the recorded absence is in error, please reach out to the school. ! #AttendanceMatters #Hilltoppers #Dare2Lead #TogetherWeKeepClimbing

Remote Learning Tips
Are you and your student struggling with how to structure the remote learning school day? Having trouble navigating Google Classroom? Need some ways to manage your stress?
Luckily, a team of Hilltopper teachers put together a resource to help give students ideas on ways to be successful: setting up a schedule, navigating Google Classroom, stress management, brain breaks, what a virtual learning day could look like, and more! These were created in the hope that one or more of these resources will help you become even more successful this school year (and beyond)! Here is a short, one page resource for students as well as a more detailed set of slides for families.
