FARM Haiti

A dear friend, Brenda stirred up the neighborhood on her recent visit. A crowd of kids followed her wherever she went to see what game she would play next. Her heart for feeding the hungry blessed 14 families with rice, oil and spices.

Brenda empowered our staff as she invited each of them to choose a family who needed food. This experience became very personal as our staff shared the reason for selecting their family. Erick selected the sweet lady in the bottom right photo. She was an older widow living down the path from the farm who was very weak and thin. He stated that he noticed she never had any food to eat as he daily passed by her house. She cried as he gave her the food. Empowering others to rise up!

Thanks to a special donor, SPF (Sustainable Food Productions) and Many Hands 4 Haiti, our vegetables seeds are now growing into big, strong seedlings ready for transplant in an insect free, protected shade house. It's so large we may even grow some delicate plants to maturity inside.

Brian Smith, an accredited trainer with Farming God's Way, traveled to Haiti to begin the accreditation process with our staff. Brian's knowledge in the Bible, farming and life provided great insight into helping FARM Haiti advance to the next level. We hosted a 4-day Farming God's Way and vegetable training with 45 agronomist and technicians attending. Brian led and our staff taught certain topics as Brian graded them. We had hands-on demonstration and the students participated in building a compost pile, planting a field, and a 'Garden of Faithfulness' (home garden). What an honor to partner with a man of great faith and integrity.

In January, Becky Lindemann from Gaylord Rotary, contacted us and asked if FARM Haiti had a need for a grant. This conversation started a ten-month process of drafting a training center, developing training programs, raising funds, and grant writing. Becky submitted the first grant for construction of a training center on October 1 and the second grant for furnishing the facility and conducting multiple training events will be submitted November 1. This still seems surreal but Mary will be heading to Haiti within a few weeks to start this project. A special thank you to all who donated to the Legacy Center, in memory of Mary's late husband Ed and in honor of their own love ones. We are humbled and honored to be picked by Rotary to advance our work in Haiti.

Projects funded by grants are wonderful and we still need regular supporters to continue funding our daily operating budget. Donate to the general fund or pick a specific function to support.
