Dear Sward Families:

In your child's folder today, you will find a few red paper bricks. If you are not new to Sward, you will know what this signifies by just one look. For those of you that are new to Sward, these paper bricks will be crafted into our Veteran Wall of Honor for Veterans Day. This wall allows us to honor and pay respect to all of the veterans that are a part of our Sward Community.

Please complete these bricks if you have veterans in your family as we would like to honor them. If you need additional bricks, please reach out to the Sward main office at (708)423-7820 and we will send additional bricks home with your child.

Our PTA is preparing for our annual pumpkin contest. Please click HERE for the details and guidelines.

The Oak Lawn Fire Department is having their coloring book contest for Grades K-4. The coloring books are being sent home today. Entries are due to the Sward Office by: Friday, Dec 2nd.

There are quite a few children using the playground after school. However, there are also quite a few asking to run in to use the restroom. We have many after school programs and clubs that occur on a daily basis. It is important for us to know who is in the building at any given time for safety purposes. For this reason, we ask that refrain from running back in to use the restroom from the park. This makes it difficult for us to monitor who is in the building and when they are here.

Our picture RETAKE day is Thursday, October 27. If your child was absent for the fall photos or needs to retake a photo, the photographers will be here on Thursday, October 27.

It is not too late... Please send your child's PTA Fall Party Permission form and party money to school as soon as possible. The fall party will be here before we even know it!

If you will be volunteering at the Fall Party, please come to the office to get your ID scanned. Even if you scanned your ID last year, we will need to do it again this year.

The Chromebooks for our Grade 4 students are being switched out for updated ones. This change will occur tomorrow. For this reason, please ensure your child brings their charger to school along with their Chromebook every day. If your child's charger is missing, the fee for a replacement one for the new Chromebook will be $25. A new Chromebook cannot be issued until the "missing charger" fee is paid. If the charger is missing, the fee can either be paid in cash or a check made payable to Oak Lawn-Hometown School District 123.

A flyer is coming home today for our PTA Father/Son Game Day that will be taking place from 10:00 a.m.- 12:00 noon on Saturday, November 12. See the flyer in your child's folder for additional details.

The annual D123 Leaf Raking date has been scheduled for Saturday, November 12. Mark your calendars if you would like to participate in this wonderful event. Click here for additional details and registration information.

The Sward Student Council has started a sock drive for the month of October. Please click here for additional details. If you would like your child to participate, please send them with a new pair of socks (or 2) and they will be donated to local homeless shelters and people in need.

Each year, on Unity Day, we come together to share a powerful message and pledge to be Bully Free. We hope our message is strong enough to last throughout the year and always. This year, District has a week long set of themed days to correlate with Unity Week. Please click here to check out the themes for the week of October 17-21.

When you "catch your child" using real life math outside of school, please send a photo and statement of explanation to ckramer@d123.org . Check out this example of our Eagle figuring out the total amount of money his PTA Taffy Apple order will cost. The photos and explanations will be added to a "Math Outside of School" bulletin board for all to see.
