GLOBE Athletics Continues to Grow!
Dear GLOBE Athletic Club members,
I am very grateful to be surrounded by so many talented student athletes, and to have such wonderful support from our parents and the administration here at The GLOBE Academy. This is my third year as Athletic Director, and as we move into 2024, I am extremely proud of what we have accomplished in a relatively short period of time.
This exciting journey, which began three years ago with only 7 teams and 4 sports for students to participate in after school, has grown into a streamlined athletic program with 26 teams competing in 9 different sports. It may sound crazy, but this spring we are also adding golf to our line-up, which will be our 10th sport! Additionally, athletics was opened up to 6th grade students last year, which has now been extended to 5th grade. This has proven to be a huge part of our success, as it allows us to build developmental programs while preparing young athletes for higher levels of competition.
It has now been two years since the launch of GLOBE Athletic Club with the sole purpose of supporting the Athletic Department. The club has proven to be of tremendous support for me and the entire GLOBE athletics program. As you will see below, there are three BIG things that we have managed to accomplish this year with your help: Concession Trailer, Transportation and Athletics Website.

GLOBE Athletics Website Live on Tuesday, January 16th
Simon Butler, GLOBE's Communications Director, has been working hard to complete a website for GLOBE Athletics that is built using the TeamSnap platform. This will help parents see all of the athletic events going on in all of the programs. Currently, each week I create a 'Weekly Calendar' to help communicate what is going on, but this is time consuming and subject to human error. A dedicated website integrated into TeamSnap will certainly help keep everyone informed with up to date information. As members of GLOBE Athletic Club, we are pleased to share a preview of the site, before it is rolled out to the wider community on Wednesday, January 17. Click on the image to take a look around.

Process for selecting Athlete of the Month
Congratulations to the following student athletes who were nominated and/or selected as Athletes of the Month! You may be wondering how these students are selected so here is the process for this honor:
1) Each coach of the sport in season may nominate up to two athletes for their contributions to the team and/or school community. Those nominations and the reasons why are compiled into a list for that specific month.
2) The list is then sent to all coaches in all sports and the Athletic Club Committee members who read through the information and vote accordingly.
3) If there is a tie - then we will have a runoff vote. The student athlete with the most votes is named our Athlete of the Month. Each winner is presented with a trophy (purchased by the Athletic Club) at his or her end of season banquet.

Fall 2023 Season Recap
As members of the Athletic Club, the hope is that you will receive more in-depth information regarding athletics because this the world in which we live! This being said, you may also not have time to find out the many wonderful things going on in other sports so this is a way to help provide you with a more comprehensive view of athletics. Of course there will be more detailed season recaps in the future, but for now here is a quick snippet:
Boys Soccer - Amazing Season!
A Team (7-2) - Runner Up in MAAC Conference earned a Banner for the Gym (only losses to AIS).
We had full B and C team rosters with both teams working hard to be ready for next season.
We also added 2 high quality coaches to help Coach Teufel build the program: Pablo Luguercio and Gerardo Morales who coach soccer year round for the Atlanta Estudiantes Soccer Club.
Cross Country - Great Season!
Girls had a MAAC top 10 finisher - Violet Hall. Boys and girls both worked hard and competed this season - many improved their PR's each week and most were first time cross country runners. Our coach, Rebecca Carpenter trains world class athletes via Dynamo Multi Sport program and we are very fortunate to have her working with our GLOBE student athletes.
Girls Volleyball - We were a better team than the record shows!
A Team (4-7) Volleyball struggled to win games but were very competitive in several matches against the top teams. This is a highly skilled sport and GLOBE has been improving over the past 3 years and is now at a very competitive level in the MAAC. Most of our players play club level volleyball and are working hard in the off season to hopefully be a top team in the future.
Ultimate Frisbee - First Year was a Learning Year!
Ultimate Frisbee fielded 2 teams and later learned that it was probably best to have only one team. While we did not have a 500 season - the groundwork was laid for future success. Ultimately (yes pun intended) the players enjoyed playing and the coaches were able to figure out how to maneuver in a well established MAAC conference.
Here are a few BIG accomplishments this year!
CONCESSIONS
We now have a Concessions Trailer! GLOBE now has a portable 'concession stand' that can be used for multiple sports, activities and venues. The Athletic Club Committee approved to purchase this for $4,750 in November and we were open for business in December. The spectators love it and the Athletic Club has already made close to $1,000 in a very short time.
TRANSPORTATION
Parents have a lot on their plate - so GLOBE Athletics Club wanted to help lighten the load if possible. We contracted with two different transportation companies to help transport athletes to practices being held at Clairmont Presbyterian Church and games. The cost ranged from $115 to $200 which included all transportation needs for the family whether it was to practices, games or both. This was an additional fee that many parents were willing to pay in order to make their lives less stressful.
While we used this as a 'test' for future sports, I would say that the feedback from parents has been very positive. We hope to continue to offer this for our spring sports. We still have to figure out the cost per sport, or if it is feasible. Students riding shuttle - 15 average. Students riding bus - 18 average.
Glimpse into Winter Sports
Basketball, Swim and Cheer
All of our basketball teams are doing a fabulous job this season! GLOBE has earned a home seed advantage and will host playoffs for Boys A, Boys B and Girls Basketball MAAC Tournament.
The Swim Team won last year's MAAC Conference Championships and are poised to place in the top 2 again this year if all goes well. Their final meet is this Saturday at GA Tech. We wish them the very best of luck and let's hope for a repeat!
Cheerleading does a fabulous job to support all of our basketball teams with high energy and great spirit...Thank you for all you do!
Boys Basketball A Team (8-0) - 1st Place
Girls Basketball A Team ( 7-2) - 2nd Place
Boys B Team Basketball (7-0) - 1st Place
Boys C Team Basketball (9-1) - 2nd Place
Swim Team (3-1 Overall) - 2nd Place
We need more parents to help!
A great way to earn volunteer hours...
We need more parents to get involved to make GLOBE athletics even better! Click here if you are interested in serving on the committee or helping on one of the sub-committees this school year. Most work is done independently and we meet on the 3rd Friday of each month from 8-9am either virtually or in person at GLOBE. In return for your support, you will also receive volunteer hours and GLOBE Athletic SWAG!
