Dear RBES Families,
RBES will be hosting mathematics student-led conferences for February. Student-led conferences are a wonderful way for your student to share their areas of expertise and goals for growth. During the conference your student will share these goals and successes as well as communicate the action steps they will take to meet their goals. Student-led conferences support motivating students toward new successes and develop a teamwork approach between home and school. The conference is 15 min long, this will be organized with the first 10 min devoted to student-led conversations and the final five with the parent and teacher only to debrief. If you are unable to bring your student to the conference you should still sign up for a conference time slot.
The grade level team with the greatest sign-up and attendance at parent teacher conferences wins a 45-minute extra recess time. The class with the greatest sign-up and attendance at parent teacher conferences wins an ice cream social or pizza party. For our 1st set of conferences the grade level winner was Kindergarten! The class that had the greatest sign up & attendance for K-5 was Mrs. Scible’s class and in our RECC program it was Mrs. Gilbert’s class! Who will be the winning grade level and class for our February conferences?!

Congratulations to 4th grade students ; Maryam Mousa, Phobe Noyce. Emani Purnell, and Jackson Tysol for having their artwork displayed in the HC 4th grade showcase! Please stop by and check out their artwork.
A Message from Our Assistant Principal:
Over the course of 1/8-2/5 students in grades 1-5 will take the Measured Academic Progress (MAP) assessment. The data from the MAP assessment will help schools and teachers measure your student’s academic progress. The MAP test does not affect grades and the difficulty adjusts depending on how your child responds. It is normal for students to only answer about half the questions correctly. To learn more about the MAP assessment, please visit: https://www.nwea.org/the-map-suite/common-questions-families/
Your child's teacher will communicate specific dates and times as the dates become closer. If your child is unable to attend, makeup testing will be offered during school hours.
Culture Night
Running Brook Culture Night will take place on March 6th from 6:30pm-8:00pm in the school cafeteria. We are looking for Running Brook families to participate. There are several ways to participate.
1) Perform a song, dance or other cultural performance on stage. We will designate 10 minutes spots for these performances. Music must be provided ahead of time.
2) Contact a local cultural organization and request a performance. For example, if you know of a dance troupe that might be available to perform, we would alot them approximately 10 minutes to perform
3) Set up a table with artifacts from your culture. Food, household items, pictures, clothing, etc. You will have 1 5-6 foot table to display your items. You must be able to attend the entire event.
Use the following form to tell us how you would like to participate. We need lots of RBES participation to make this event successful. Please sign up today.

Let's keep cheering on our Pre-K team while they complete the Maryland State Accreditation process! This month they focused on the following standards.
- 2.3.2 & 2.3.7-Co-create classroom rules, referring to C4L expectation posters. These should be hung and available to reference daily with students. The team will also be addressing the difference between expectations and rules.
- 2.1.3(a)-Environment reflects students, families and staff (windows & mirrors): pictures of students, staff and families around the room, diversity/ability posters around the room (may need to take down other items on wall for space), puzzles of families/people groups, dolls of variety of skin tones, books around the room, skin tone materials around room (crayons, paper, etc.)
Keep up the hard work Pre-K!
