Sketches to Submarines
Technically Leonardo de Vinci was the first to think of invented a submarine. David Bushnell was given credit for the invention of the Submarine. Yet, William Bourne also had ideas of a submarine. However, Cornelis Drebbel was the first to bring this idea to life. He created the first submarine in the year of 1776.
Purpose of the Submarine
The first submarines were made from carved wood. It had to be hand cranked and was built a foot peddle for propelling. Some early submarines were given four propellers but a single man submarine had no more than two. They used wood because they had a lot of that resource.
Changes Made
The invention of the submarine has drastically changed. Renaissance submarines were used to spot the enemy without being seen. Some were able to plant gunpowder on other ships. Today's submarines are used for military and aquatic purposes. We can use submarines to explore the ocean and what is beyond the reefs. We also use them in the navy to seek other enemy ships during wars or battles.
