Principal's Comments
Greetings, Warrior Families!
We are looking forward with anticipation and excitement to the start of the 2023-24 school year! We have included important back-to-school information in this newsletter to help ensure you and your student(s) have a successful start to the school year. We encourage you to read the newsletter in its entirety, so that you have all the important information and dates, beginning with Warrior Day on August 10.
Our construction projects are progressing nicely! The new weight-room is completed and they are putting the finishing touches on the field turf.
In June and July, we welcomed over 100 members of the Class of 2027 into the building with Summer Connections! The building was also busy hosting activity camps! It is most certainly shaping up to be a wonderful, active school year! Our staff will return to the building in a few short weeks to prepare for a year of student learning. Parent, Student, Teacher (PST) night on Thursday, August 17th from 5:30 pm - 9:00 pm is a great time for you to come in, meet your student’s teachers and hear about what your student will be learning. Please see the specific times for your student’s grade further on in the newsletter. The first academic day of school is Thursday, August 24th. We feel very fortunate to have such an incredible group of dedicated professionals working to support our #warriornation.
You will notice in the information that follows that our daily schedule for the year will be 8:15 a.m. – 3:10 p.m., Monday – Friday. The school day also contains Warrior Halftime: a time when a student can access any teacher for help with an assignment, test, or activity. Additionally, during this time we offer an opportunity for students to access the gym during halftime to play basketball, soccer, throw the football - essentially move their bodies. The 2021-22 school year was the first year of implementation for Warrior Halftime. The data from that showed an overall decrease in course failures, an increase in semester test scores, and a decrease in overall building office referrals. This trend continued through the 2022-23 school year. What we know as educators is when students have a time to connect with peers and teachers and when they have a structured environment to move, we all see benefits. So we are excited to continue to provide our students time and space within the school day to be able to get the help they need, gather with friends in the library to play games, organize a study group, or perhaps explore an activity in the gym.
If you have not already, please take the time to update your Online Registration information. When you complete your Online Registration Update, we then have the ability to utilize a variety of platforms to communicate information to students, parents and guardians. There are more details on the Online Registration Update as you read through all the information contained in this newsletter.
We are looking forward to seeing you on August 10. If you have questions prior to then, please don’t hesitate to reach out to the school at 605.367.7970.
