Greetings Sward Families:

Our Sward Student Council is focusing on Childhood Cancer Awareness for the month of September. These students have organized Penny Wars to raise funds for pediatric cancer and to honor our very own Sward Eagle, AJ.

Coins are being collected through this Friday, September 24th.

We are super excited to see our jars for Penny Wars filling up to the brim! All of the money we raise from these Penny Wars will be donated to causes directly tied to pediatric cancer. We will provide an update letting everyone know how much money was raised through Penny Wars as well as which organizations received the donations.

Our PTA is sponsoring an AJ Day on Tuesday, September 28th. Please encourage your child to wear gold/yellow on this day, as it is the color of Childhood Cancer awareness Month. Each Sward Eagle will receive a Childhood Cancer Awareness pencil.

NWEA MAP score reports have been posted to your Skyward Family Access account. Please take some time to celebrate your child’s accomplishments and encourage them to keep working hard!

You can find an official copy of your child’s MAP Growth Report under the “Portfolio” tab. Simply LOGIN to SkywardFamily Access, then click PORTFOLIO > LATEST NWEA MAP REPORT Click HERE to see where to look once you are in the system.

For those that ride bicycles to school, we ask that you walk your bicycle once you make it onto the school property. It can get really crowded at arrival and dismissal. We want to do our best to keep everyone safe and avoid accidents as much as possible. Thank you!

Many times, parents request permission for their child to bring a cell phone to school. We ask that you complete a Cellular Phone Permission Request and send it to school with your child so that we have it on file. Students with permission to possess a cell phone at school should have the device turned off and stored in their book bag during normal school hours. If you need a permission form, your child can pick one up from the main office and bring it home with them. Thank you.

The deadline for the purchase of Chromebook Insurance is quickly approaching. Families have until September 30, 2021 to register for Chromebook insurance at the cost of $25.00 per child. Repairs to the Chromebooks can be quite costly and the insurance will definitely help to keep the cost down. This can be completed through Skyward Family Access. Last year was lots of fun, so this year will be the 2nd annual Spooktacular celebration. Please click HERE for an informational flyer. This will be held on Saturday, October 23 at OLHMS. If your child will be absent:

• Please call the Sward main office to report an absence (708)423-7820. There will be questions that must be asked during this time of pandemic protocol.
• Keep in close contact via email with your child's teacher. They will be able to inform you of the work your child will miss during the absence. They might provide links for your child to access on their device, a packet to pick up in the office, or a mix of both.
• Many days, there will be virtual homework help opportunity for the absent children from 3:30-4:30. Please email ckramer@d123.org for additional information or a meeting link.

Our D123 Ed Foundation's Tacos and Trivia Night is back in person. The Ed Foundation provides our students and staff with such wonderful opportunities and experiences. Please click HERE for more details about the event as well as information about registration.

Physicals need to be turned into the Health Office by October 15th. Physicals are needed for Preschool, Kindergarten and new transfer students. A vision exam and a dental exam are also required for Kindergarten. Please remember to fill out the health history portion of the physical form. If forms are not in by 10/15 students will be excluded from school starting 10/16 until forms are received. If you have any questions please contact the Health Office.

The funds raised will go towards our school events this year including: the pumpkin contest, the book fair, 5th grade end of year event, teacher appreciation week, and many more activities for our students!
