Absences
We made it through our Covid stretch at the beginning but are now smack dab in the middle of respiratory/RSV/flu season. If your child requires medication (Tylenol/Ibuprofen) for a fever they are not allowed in school until they are fever free with no medication for 24 hours. Calling out sick is an excused absence.
Please remember that if you are a community peer, 6 unexcused tardies and absences will result in a letter home, 12 is a letter home and a meeting with administration to discuss ways to help increase attendance, and 20 could result in the removal from the program. Letters have already been going home to those who meet the criteria. It is not our intention to remove anyone from the program. We would like to work with you to ensure that your children receive the most out of the preschool experience.
Research has shown that PreK attendees had stronger literacy skills once they reached the first grade ( Haslip, 2018).
Classroom Spotlight: The Speech Crew
Miss Lisa: I have been at the ELC since January 2010, and have met so many amazing children and families along the way. I love working with this age group because the children can make such great progress during their short time in preschool…..and we always have FUN! When I’m not working, you can find me with my husband and two kids (Alex, 10 & Emily, 7) or snuggled up on the couch with a good book. Some of my favorite things are the TV show Friends, Sour Patch watermelon candy, the color blue, and Dunkin Donuts coffee!
Miss Maria: This will be my 6th year working as an Speech-Language Pathologist and I have been lucky enough to have worked at the ELC for 5 of those years! I love the sense of community the ELC offers and have enjoyed getting to know many children over the years. I am passionate about helping my students communicate while making therapy fun and engaging! I live in Rhode Island with my boyfriend Morgan and my stepson Andrew, who is 12 years old. We like to cook together, watch movies on the couch and are looking forward to going on a family vacation this year. Outside of work I enjoy being by the ocean, drinking tea, watching reality television and buying way too many plants for our house!
Miss Sarah: Miss Sarah is the "newest" member of the speech crew. You'll find her mostly working on the evaluation team. She also works at Willett Elementary school and helps supervise speech services for the outpatient students. When she's not at school, you can find her with her family and hanging with her two golden retriever pups that she calls "the Golden Girls." Some of her favorite things are the beach, running road races and traveling.
Miss Tricia: I have been employed with the Attleboro Public Schools as a Speech-Language Therapy Assistant for 24 years! I have the pleasure of working with preschoolers who have Speech/Language services on their IEPs. It's the best job in the world! I love the little ones and enjoy getting to know their families as well. My husband and I have lived in Attleboro for 35 years, raising our three children, volunteering in various community programs and getting involved in different city activities. During my summers, I enjoy working in my garden and floating in my swimming pool 🙂, but my favorite way to spend my free time is being with family, especially my grandchildren, ages nine and seven. They keep me very busy! Our family is very excited about our son's upcoming wedding in the Spring 2023 🙂
