Advent Inspiration - Be The Wisemen and Take the First Step Forward Together
2nd Week of Advent Message from Father Kris
Starting something new is always a challenge.
Once we have removed the clutter to see the star, we are called to be like the wisemen and take the leap of faith by setting out on the journey and taking that first step. What comes next may be uncertain, but know that God wants to come and meet us at mass.
When we struggle to take that first step, we remember there were wisemen, not a wiseman. We take an act of faith together, for taking that step is something we do with others, never alone.
EICS Engagement on the 2022-2026 Division Education Assurance Plan
The Elk Island Catholic Schools Board (EICS) of Trustees is seeking stakeholder input to develop our 2022-2026 Division Education Assurance Plan.
In Alberta, school boards are responsible for providing assurance to their stakeholders that they are fulfilling their responsibilities, meeting the needs of students and enabling their success. The key to building public assurance is engaging with our education partners in the Division’s planning and reporting cycle. The parent, student and EICS community voice is integral to building this plan and helps create a culture of continuous improvement.
EICS will be engaging with our communities beginning December 1, 2021 through the ThoughtExchange online engagement process. It is a very easy and open thought process with only two questions to prompt discussion, collect input and a starring process to ensure that everyone’s voice is heard. We will be emailing the ThoughtExchange link to all EICS community members on December 1st and the exchange will stay open until December 15, 2021. It will also be available on all EICS websites and school websites.
This engagement process is the beginning of creating the four year education assurance plan which the EICS Board of Trustees will approve in the Spring of 2022.
Dear families,
It’s starting to be pretty chilly for students who are waiting at the bus stop. This is the time of year we want to remind everyone that warm coats, toques, mittens and boots are important for students to have with them when riding the bus. If we get delayed or have a mechanical issue, we need all students to have the proper winter clothing.
In addition, please remember that it remains mandatory for students to wear a face mask while riding the school bus. This is a Government of Alberta law and cannot be changed by our school division. We hope the masking mandate will be lifted soon, but for right now masks are required.
This is also the time of year when buses sometimes get delayed or cancelled due to weather. In order to receive notifications of any route changes, please ensure the contact information your school has on file for you is correct.
Thanks for ensuring your child has warm clothes and a mask with them each day!

2021 SH Boys Volleyball
I’d like to thank the 2021 SH Boys Volleyball team for an outstanding season! Your continued support and commitment to the Royals Athletics program is greatly appreciated! All 10 players dedicated themselves weekly to getting better as a team, and it led to lots of growth and success on the court. This year’s team were; Earle Berry Classic Finalists, OLMP Showdown Finalists, St. Andre Bessette Champions and ECCHS Qtr. Finalists in tournament play. As well, the team won the East Central League and were crowned 2A Central Zone Champions for the 4th straight season getting them back to the ASAA 2A Provincial Championships in Cold Lake. At Provincials the boys battled hard and tied for 3rd place in their RR pool where they narrowly lost out in a playdown 25-22 to Edmonton Christian School to miss the playoffs. Great job Royals, the outcome was not what we wanted, but the experience was invaluable to the program moving forward. To our graduating players (Lochlin Baumle, Logan Yaremko & Ethan Swerda), thank-you for your dedication to the program over the past 3 years, and leadership for this year’s grade 10’s and 11’s. Best of luck moving forward into the next chapter of your lives!
Thank-you to the parents for your continued support through a difficult Covid year. You weren’t able to be live at many games, but we knew you were always cheering from home for the team to succeed! Finally, thank-you to Sterling Water and SPUR Petroleum for your generous donations to provide our players with hoodies and new uniforms to wear with pride!
