2021-2022 Agency Wide Trainings
Become a Child Mental Health First Aider
This training course introduces adults to the unique risk
factors and warning signs of mental health problems in children and adolescents, builds understanding of the importance of early intervention, and teaches educators how to help a child who is experiencing a mental health challenge or is in crisis.
The in person training schedule is:
8:30-11:30 training
11:30-12:00 lunch
12:00-3:30 training
Child Mental Health First Aid training is FREE to all participants. Materials are now covered through the Prairie Lake - Mental Health Training Awareness Project.
This training also meets the Iowa legislation requirement of one hour of suicide prevention training for school districts.
How Child Mental Health First Aid Can Help
- Informs adults about common mental health concerns among children
- Reduces stigma
- Teaches adults how to recognize signs and symptoms of mental health problems in children and youth
- Teaches a 5 step action plan to help children and youth who may be facing a mental health challenge or crisis
