It was a busy month of January with the Fort Worth Stock Show! We are gearing up for the Tarrant County Junior Livestock and Project Show as well as many events and contest opportunities as we look forward to spring. Be sure to read this newsletter carefully for all of the details!

The entrance to our building is on the West side facing our surface parking lot and Burnett St., it is not on Taylor St. The surface parking lot entrance is on West 2nd Street (Parking will be validated for those participating/staying at an event. Please bring the ticket up with you and we will provide a sticker barcode that scans to get you out free of charge). You will enter the building on the 2nd floor and then take the elevators to the 5th floor where our office is located.

February County Youth Council - No Meeting!
Join the NEXT Tarrant County Youth Council on Monday, March 18th at 6:30 p.m. for the County Youth Council and Adult Leaders Meetings! The Youth Council will be hosting an ambassador panel. Come and learn about the different types of 4-H ambassadorships that YOU can particcipate in!

Tarrant County 4-H Photography Contest
This is a call for entries for the 2024 Tarrant County 4-H Photography Contest. As a reminder, this is the contest that will serve as the qualifier for State for 4-H Seniors.
All photos must be uploaded through the entry form. 4-H Photo Contest Google Form by Thursday, March 14, 2024.
We will follow the 2023-2024 Photography Rules and Guidelines
County Talent Showcase (previously Share the Fun) Contest - Save the Date!
The 4-H Talent Showcase is a competitive event related to the Theater and Performing Arts project. 4-H members have the chance to develop a spirit of cooperation with their fellow 4-H members; develop self-confidence through public performance.

4-H Dog Show - Save the Date!
Please mark Saturday, April 6, 2024, on your calendars for the 4-H Dog Show hosted by the East Fort Worth 4-H Club.
Steer Ultrasound Contest
As you know the county show this year is going to different than years past due to Will Rogers being under construction. Therefore, we have had to change the schedule up for the Ultrasound Contest, The contest will be held Saturday, February 24 from 9 – 11 a.m. Entry for the contest was on showorks when you entered all your other entries. However, please DO NOT panic, if you missed that you can still participate!!! I will still be taking entries the day of, if you have already sent in your entries then you are good to go. The Entry Fee is still $40/animal.
Location of the contest will be at the Fort Worth Police Mounted Patrol barn. That address is 1901 N Las Vegas Trail Fort Worth. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out!

TCJLS IMPORTANT Info about Add-on's
All youth with TCJLS entries will need to create their own profiles in https://www.stockshowauctions.com/ in order to receive any add on monies for their projects. Please reach out to your club manager as they have a list of your entries/numbers.
**Please make sure to pay close attention to provide the correct number – the system will ask for both the entry number and the exhibitor number. Please see the document below for specific instructions. Email Laura Howe (tcjlasecretary@gmail.com), TCJLA Secretary, with questions!

District IV Entomology Contest
Mark your calendars for the District IV Entomology Contest!
District Range & Pasture ID Contest
Date: March 9, 2024
Location: Dallas County District 1 Road and Bridge Office 715 Rowlett Rd. Garland, Texas
Time: Registration: 1:00 p.m. Contest: 1:30 p.m.
Each participating member is required to register on 4-H Online (https://texas.4honline.com) and pay the $12.00 registration fee. Registration will open on February 7, 2024 and closes at midnight on February 21, 2024
Fashion Storyboard Contest
The Fashion Storyboard contest is held in conjunction with our County Roundup events. Junior and Intermediate aged youth can turn in a digital or physical storyboard (Seniors must be digital), however, we turn in pictures of physical boards for District judging. A full set of rules/guidelines can be found here.
Registration. Each participating member is required to register on 4-HOnline and pay the district $12.00 contest registration fee. Registration will begin on February 28, 2024 and close at midnight on March 9, 2024.
Entries must be turned in to Miss Kate by March 9th.

Virtual Fishing Program
It’s time to start gearing up for the STATEWIDE 2024 4-H Virtual Fishing Reel ‘em In Skill-a-thon! Registration will open on 4HOnline, February 1st with the spring tournament scheduled to start on March 15th.
This is a fun, educational opportunity for 4-H youth and Clover Kids to get outside and fish with their families and friends as the fishing takes place wherever they are located in Texas! Short educational videos on fishing tips, equipment, fish ID, industry careers, and more are available on the Texas 4-H Natural Resources Facebook page and new YouTube page. Prize packages of gift cards, fishing gear, and more will be awarded as provided by our sponsors. Last year we awarded over $10,000 in prizes!
Texas 4-H Roundup
The schedule and hotel block has been released for the 2024 Texas 4-H Roundup held in College Station (June 3rd - 6th). Visit this website for ALL of the details! There are many educational and FUN opportunities held during this event so be sure to check it out!

Texas 4-H Council Delegate at Large
Youth interested in the Texas 4-H Council At Large Delegate process, there will be an At-Large election question and answer session with current Council members that went through the At-Large Process. We will host the event Tuesday, February 27th. A link to the Zoom will be sent out the morning of February 27th to those that sign up on the Google Form. Healthy Texas Youth Ambassador Application OPEN
Looking for a new way to engage high school youth in health education, nutrition and health projects, and leadership? If so, consider becoming a Healthy Texas Youth Ambassador County! Healthy Texas Youth Ambassadors can assist county Extension agents in providing valuable health education to youth and adults within the community. Working alongside their agent, they can become a valuable part of the local Texas A&M AgriLife and Texas 4-H Youth Development team! Applications are open now and due April 1st. Once applications are received, completed applications will be forwarded to County Extension Agents for final approval into the program. States' 4-H International Exchange Summer Hosting
Host a Japanese youth in summer 2024 through States' 4-H International & bring the richness of the world to your home. The hosting period is July 24-August 17. Youth to be hosted are ages 12-18. Host families must have a child of the same gender and within three years of age of the hosted youth. The visiting youth have a range of English language abilities, so host families should be prepared to communicate imaginatively. Families should submit an application by clicking here.

Texas 4-H Foundation Scholarships
The Texas 4-H Foundation Opportunity Scholarship is now OPEN! All graduating seniors who are Texas 4-H members are encouraged to apply. Applications are lengthy, so it is wise to start now. Find all scholarship information here.
Texas Farm Bureau Scholarships
Applications for all TFB scholarships are open for submission. TFB awards over $240,000 each year to graduating high school seniors and enrolled college students. Applications must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. on March 1, 2024. Winners will be accounted by May 2024. Information on how to apply for the scholarship is available by clicking here.

2024 District IV ULTRA Camp - SAVE THE DATE
If you are entering the 9th grade in the fall of 2024 you are eligible to attend the District IV ULTRA Leadership Camp. It will be held June 27-29, 2024, at Camp Akiva in Point, TX.
