We are really excited to share our latest library addition: Makerspaces! Makerspaces are DIY spaces for students to create, explore, innovate, and invent. We have several stations available for students to tinker with during their lunch recesses. These include a green screen area, K'Nex and Legos, duct tape and other craft items, Sphero, a robotic ball controlled with an iPad app, and a Makey Makey, a tool that turns anything into a touchpad. Students seem to be enjoying their time playing and exploring. Stay tuned for new items to be added soon. Check out the pictures below to see our students in action.

We are encouraging students to participate in two ongoing reading incentives: Six Flags' Read to Succeed program and the Milwaukee Bucks' reading challenge. Through Six Flags, once students document at least six hours of reading on a reading log, they will earn a free ticket to Six Flags Great America this summer. In addition, students can earn a free Milwaukee Bucks ticket if they complete a reading log. More information about these programs and reading logs can be picked up in the library. All completed Six Flags reading logs can be turned into Mrs. Young; completed Milwaukee Bucks logs can be turned in at the public library.

Your library is not just a place to check out books. Mrs. Young is working with classes daily to integrate different technologies and information literacy skills. Some of these activities include making videos, Skyping with other classes and experts, teaching students how to safely navigate the web, accessing subscription databases, and creating with the iPads. Do you have any old Legos that you no longer need? In an attempt to add to our Makerspaces we are looking for donations of old Legos. Legos will not only be used for student-created designs, but Mrs. Young will also be working with groups to teach students how to create stop motion animation videos. If you have any Legos to donate, please bring them into the library. All donations are sincerely appreciated!
