CVSD Update

August 2023
Superintendent's Message
CVSD Vision, Mission, and Values
In March, the CVSD School Board approved the main elements of CVSD’s Strategic Plan. Visitors to our schools will soon see the new image above, which will replace our previous mission statement.
We have 4 priority areas and a set of objectives under each of priority. We are currently finalizing actions and measures for each objective.
Find more details on the strategic plan page of the district’s website.
Safety, Security, and Annual Forms
PowerSchool Annual Updates
Annual Update Forms MUST be completed in order for your student to participate in field trips and other school events. Forms may be completed on-line or using the PowerSchool Mobile App.
Returning students and anyone who registered their student this year before August 1 must fill out the forms.
Use these directions to use the PowerSchool Mobile App
Please contact your school if you need assistance in any way.
One More Form to Fill Out
We also request that all families fill out the Free and Reduced Meal application each year as well. Students need healthy meals to learn. The Champlain Valley School District offers healthy meals every school day. In School Year 2023-2024, all students will receive free breakfast and lunch at school. Even though there is no charge for breakfast and lunch, we are asking you to fill out this application for free and reduced-price school meals.
This document provides many of the reasons why it is important to fill out the forms even though meals are free to students this year. Please go to the Free and Reduced Meals page on our website to learn more and to access the online and printable forms.
Student Data Privacy
We take student data privacy seriously in CVSD. Find out some of the ways in which we do that on the Student Data Privacy page of our Technology site.
Families - you can do your part as well, especially for the first day of school! Consider the ideas presented in this post.
If You Test Positive for COVID-19
If you test positive for COVID-19, isolate as soon as you receive your test result – even if you are vaccinated or never have symptoms. Isolation means staying home and away from other people for at least 5 days from the date of your positive test or the start of your symptoms, whichever is earlier.
You can end isolation after day 5 if your symptoms have improved AND you have had no fever for at least 24 hours without the use of medicine that reduces fevers. This guidance does not apply to health care workers. Please check with your employer, school or childcare program to learn about their return from isolation policies.
Guidance for Close Contacts
Close contact means being within 6 feet, for a total of 15 minutes or more over a 24-hour period, of someone with COVID-19 while they are contagious.
To determine if you were a close contact, consider time spent with someone with COVID-19 starting 2 days before they developed symptoms–or the date they tested positive if no symptoms–until they started isolation.
The Health Department recommends getting tested if you develop symptoms at any time – even if you are vaccinated or have recently had COVID-19.
New! If you do not have symptoms but have been in close contact with someone with COVID-19, it is recommended to test five (5) full days after the COVID-19 exposure.
If you use an at-home antigen test and the result is negative, test again 48 hours later.
If you have a negative PCR or LAMP test, no follow-up test is needed.
If you are sick, please stay at home. When you feel better, you can return to school. Refer to the Health Services page of our website for the answers to frequently asked questions.
