The Mustang Minute
Week of April 11th
FROM THE PRINCIPALS' OFFICES
We hope that you had a fantastic Spring Break! It was great to see our kiddos back at it this week as we begin our final stretch of the school year.
THANK YOU Genoa City Jt. 2 School Community for your support of our schools in our referendum! We are so fortunate to be in a community that values public education and supports our public schools. We look forward to continuing to work with you to create schools that are centers of greatness in our community! Congratulations also to Vicki Larson and Karen Druszczak for being elected to our School Board. The future is looking bright for Brookwood!
As a reminder to all, this evening is our BFO-sponsored "Bin-Glow" event. We hope that you will all consider coming to the BMS Gym for a fun-filled family event. Cost of Admission is $5 per person or $20 per family. Doors will open at 6:00pm and Bingo will begin at 6:30pm. Please note that this is not a drop off event. See you all there!
Have a wonderful weekend, Mustangs!

Earth Month at BMS!
Earth Month:
We are celebrating April as Earth Month. During this month, students are being immersed in tidbits of Earth Trivia as well as participating in little projects. Our themes this year are:
- Week 1: What Does Our Earth Give to Us? We are posting images on a school collage in the hallway throughout the month.
- Week 2: Nothing ever is really thrown away! We will focus on what happens when things are "thrown away." We will be having an upcycle art project to display. Save anything that can be recycled into something fun!
- Week 3: Flora and Fauna: Endangered in the Badger State! Poster contest: Research and create a poster of a favorite endangered or threatened species in Wisconsin.
- Week 4: We are all connected! The final week we will take time to walk in our beautiful woods to see what is blooming, nesting and cleaning up around our building.
The woods will be a mass of yellow daffodils soon! Think about taking a family walk this month! The woods near the school is a great opportunity to reconnect with spring ! It has been a tradition since 2002 for 4th grade to plant daffodil bulbs randomly in the community. On September 11, 2011, Brookwood and the community came together for 10 year a memorial day, to plant one bulb for every life lost in the woods next to BMS. They are a symbol of peace and resilience . Find some tranquility! There are over 15, 000 blooms that have come from 2,996 bulbs. This is an opportunity for quiet reflection and appreciation.
Family Bicycle Event
Brookwood Family Bike Ride is on April 30th from 9-12 at BMS! We are raising awareness and funds for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, promoting bicycle safety, and information on great trails in Wisconsin. This great opportunity is sponsored by the Brookwood Family Organization, Genoa City Educators' Association, Genoa City Police Department, and Avant Cycle Cafe.
The Nippersink Trail 6 mile ride for older and more advanced cyclists will start at 9 am. Our shorter ride in Hunters Ridge is geared for those younger riders and will begin at 10am. Information and education will be ongoing through 11:30am and a hot dog lunch, donated by BFO, will be provided. Come and join this fun day!
Pre-registration is encouraged and will be available to you online.
From the Classroom...
What's Happening in Mrs. Kanthack's Science Class?
The symbiotic relationship between a clownfish and an anemone is a classic example of two organisms working together to survive; the anemone provides the clownfish with protection and shelter, while the clownfish provides the anemone nutrients in the form of waste while also scaring off potential predator fish.
This is a perfect example of how our newly donated tank and creatures - thank you again Derrickson family - has enriched our science class.

BMS Clothes Closet
BMS Clothing Closet is a resource for our middle school students whose families might need a little extra help with clothing needs. If your family could benefit from gently used clothing for your middle school children, please reach out to Mrs.Garrett with questions or specific needs. Mrs. Garrett will have "open" shopping hours for students on Fridays during lunch/recess time in the art room beginning on April 8th.
