SHS Family of Champions Quarterly
August 2023
Welcome Back Message from the Principal
I hope this newsletter finds you all in good health and spirits. My name is Christine Perez and I'm excited to serve as the proud principal of Seguin High School. It has been my privilege to learn about the long standing traditions and points of pride for our campus and school community over the last couple of months. I'm beginning my 23rd year in public education and my 12th year in administration. I've served as a Special Education teacher, department chair, coordinator of school improvement, director of school leadership, and secondary campus principal. I'm a graduate of the University of Texas at San Antonio and earned my graduate degree from Schreiner University. As a native Texan who has lived in many locations as the daughter of an Army serviceman, the Lone Star state is my home. I look forward to partnering with our families and community because it takes a village along with collaboration to rally around and support our students so they reach their goals and experience success.
Our faculty is excited and looking forward to welcoming back our Matadors on Monday, August 14, 2023. As we prepare to launch the year, I'd like to share updates on summer activities that students have been a part of to stay connected to school. There are also reminders about school expectations for students and drop-off/pickup information for parents/caregivers. Thank you in advance for helping us to create and sustain a school environment focused on teaching, learning, and student leadership development. The Seguin community truly is an exemplar of exceptional citizens who are invested in the success of our students so they are prepared for post-secondary experiences.
When students arrive for the first day of school, they may use the front doors for entry or the courtyard entry doors. This helps us to keep the flow of traffic streamlined. Students who have early morning practice will be directed by their staff sponsor on how to enter the building. Students will pick up their official schedules from their first period teachers. An alphabetized roster of students will be posted in our main lobby area. Students should look for their name so they know where to go to when the bell rings to move to first period. Our instructional day begins at 8:35am daily and school dismisses at 4:05 pm.
If a student has a schedule correction that is needed, they will see a tiny URL address on their official schedule to use to request the schedule correction. Our counseling team has been working diligently to address scheduling needs. Thank you for providing our counseling team grace and patience as they work with building schedules for new students and providing scheduling corrections for returning students.
Over the course of the summer there were a number of student engagement events that included summer extracurricular camps, Summer Bridge for incoming 9th grade ECHS students, Freshman Orientation, ROTC Drill Camp, summer school, and many more. A HUGE shout out goes to our students who stayed connected to SHS during the summer and their educator sponsors who continued to work on building students' talents and skills.
I look forward to our Matador family having a phenomenal school year. Matadors, your future is now. Let your greatness shine and remember, it's a great day to be a Matador!
Sincerely,
Christine Perez

Drop Off and Pick Up Map
Please help us to keep students, faculty, and families safe by using the directions provided in the map.
- Our entry drive to the front of the campus is one way in both lanes. The left lane should be kept clear of stopped traffic especially at arrival and dismissal times so that vehicles may pass through to park or depart the area.
- The drive in lane by the Performing Arts Center is not a designated parking area.
- The front parking lot and side parking lot closest to Cedar Street are for staff members only.
- Our visitor parking is located in the first two sections closest to the entry of the school.
- Student parking is located in the south parking area which is located near the bus loop. Student parking passes will be issued soon. Once they arrive, our students will be notified so that they may purchase a parking pass. Students must provide proof of insurance and a valid driver's license.
- Parents/caregivers, please make a plan with your student to pickup at dismissal time. The Goldie Gym parking lot is a suggested area for pickup. There are ample parking spots and students can safely walk over to Goldie without having to cut through traffic or across Cedar Street.
We appreciate you helping our campus with making drop off and pick up practices as safe as possible for all of our school community.
