Welcome to the third quarter and the start of Black History Month!
Admin Corner
Please review these important dates:
January 31: Teacher work day (no school for students)
February 1: Happy Lunar New Year! (school holiday)
It will be an A Day when we return February 2; Happy Groundhog Day!
In planning for next school year, please note the announcement from LCPS that high school start and end times will be fifteen minutes later, making our school day run from 9:30am - 4:18pm.
Parking permits:
Students needing to purchase parking permits for the spring semester are able to do that now. Visit the online payment portal here; be sure to select the 2nd semester option from the drop down menu. If the student is purchasing a parking permit for the first time, the student needs to complete the online payment and also visit Ms. Berry in the main office for the parking tag. Please contact Ms. Berry with questions (karen.berry@lcps.org).
Behind The Wheel
Students that are ready to start the exciting process of signing up for Behind the Wheel, are in need of a new DEC-8 card, or need access to driving information: please visit the PE/Health school website. From there, you can also access the Schoology course (code: PZPJ-B4BB-N99JQ). This course is where you can access the Behind the Wheel registration forms and request a DEC-8 card.
The DEC-8 card pick up and submission of the paperwork for Behind the Wheel can be done with Ms. Samantha Girardi, School Counseling Secretary.
Counseling
National School Counseling Week 2022 (#NSCW22) is Feb. 7-11, 2022, to focus public attention on the unique contribution of school counselors within U.S. school systems. National School Counseling Week, sponsored by American School Counselor Association “ASCA” , highlights the tremendous impact school counselors can have in helping students achieve school success and plan for a career. Champe celebrates our School Counselors for their dedication to students, staff and community. THANK YOU, Ms. Coniglio, Mr. Peoples, Ms. Thompson, Mr. Kim, Ms. Thomas, Mr. Diamond, Ms. Jones, Mr. Brier, and Ms. Johnson!
Academic advising is underway for the 2022-23 school year. Teachers are sharing recommendations, counselors are meeting with students, and students and families should be making selections in StudentVue after reviewing recommendations and considering goals for graduation.
PTSA
Full-length SAT Practice
When it comes to the SAT, earning higher scores means having more options for your future. There is no better way to improve your scores than to practice! For just $20, take a full-length practice SAT exam with Huntington Learning Center on Saturday, February 26, at 9 a.m. in the JCHS cafeteria. Students from any school can register for the test. Proceeds go to the Champe PTSA, which supports our students and teachers. Please click here to register for this event.
Huntington Learning Center will provide you with a comprehensive score report and teach you how to analyze your results. Since the scores are not reported and will only be seen by you, this is a risk-free opportunity. Don't miss out!
The PTSA Senior Events Committee is planning some fun events to celebrate our Class of '22 - but we need your help! Senior events will include activities like Powder Puff game, Outdoor Movie Night, Senior Field Day, and more!
Please consider donating to help us make these events a success.
Donate at: https://pay4schoolstuff.com/marketplace, add your student profile and then select John Champe High School, Class of 2022 Senior Fundraising. Contact johnchampeptsa@gmail.com with any questions.
