Canvas Commons enables educators to find, import, and share resources. You can share full courses or individual items such as assignments, modules, quizzes, pages, and discussions to Commons. PLC Teams may find it to be a useful collaboration tool and can use common naming norms to make searching and finding materials easily.

Currently, many sites are able to share within Commons to IUSD as a whole or to their specific site, but some sites are not. Canvas is in the process of updating to make this feature available to all our sites. If you are not able to access it now, please continue to check back each week.

How to Import a Resource from Commons

If you're reviewing a document and want to suggest changing some text, you often don't want to "give away the answer" or change the integrity of the document as it is. In Suggesting mode (found in the upper right hand corner of a document below Share) you can switch to suggest edits to the owner of the document without affecting the original text. Your suggestions won't change the original text until the document owner approves or denies them. Once you are in Suggesting mode, start typing to begin suggesting edits. You will see a colored strike-thru on the text your are suggesting, so don't be alarmed you aren't ruining their document. Hopefully you're helping to improve it!

With an update to Docs in the past couple of days, you can now see how many suggestions need to be followed-up on in a doc with a circled number icon to the right of the the title in the Drive. This is helpful to see which documents have suggestions on them, and which do not. Want more resources? Click here.

Hypothes.is mission is "to enable a conversation over the world's knowledge." Hypothes.is is a chrome extension that allows users to collaboratively annotate the internet. The extension allows students to highlight text and then comment, attach pictures, and link external sites to a specific piece of text. Teachers can create separate classes and groups, so students can work together to unpack a difficult text. Students are able to read and comment on each other's analysis, allowing for rich discussions, activities, and writing. Hypothes.is has also integrated with assignments in Canvas and annotations are populated into SpeedGrader.
