Dear Mohawk Families,

I hope your holidays were restful and enjoyable. The beginning of a new year often inspires us to create new goals or resolutions for ourselves. It is also a great time to help your student(s) develop the habit of reviewing their own goals and plans. Research shows that when we set goals and receive specific feedback about our goals, we are more likely to be successful.

Throughout the school year, teachers work with students to create their own individual reading goal and a plan to help them achieve this goal. They create a goal that is specific and measurable such as improving their score on MAP (NWEA), FastBridge, or increasing the number of sight words they recognize. When a child creates a plan for improving their achievement, it gives them ownership of their learning and empowers them to reach that goal. Students need to be aware that hard work and persistence are the ways to success. Praising students for their efforts toward reaching their goals is extremely important and allows students to develop a Growth Mindset.

You play an important role in the success of your child’s education. Teaching your child to persevere when things are difficult will promote his/her self-esteem. Help them achieve their goals in the classroom by remaining connected to the process. Finally, supporting their education ensures your child will succeed. Thank you for your continued support. We have much to look forward to this year!

Mohawk will be hosting our PEN Night Workshop for students in grades 3-5 on Tuesday, January 31st. Please see the flyer below and register by Monday, January 23rd!

Don't forget about our School Store Fundraiser! Shopping at your favorite stores through the School Store ensures that Mohawk receives a percentage of your sales. Just log in to the School Store website, pick your store and shop! You can still purchase gift cards for your child's teacher so they can purchase itemsfrom the School Store.Your student will earn prizes and any money we earn will go back into items needed for the classroom. This fundraiser ends in May.

Mohawk Elementary will be participating in The Great Kindness Challenge! During the week of January 23rd-27th, We will join thousands of schools across the country to create a culture of kindness. Your child is part of a powerful and positive bullying prevention initiative that will lead to more kindness, unity and respect at school and beyond.

Additionally, students will complete a Kindness Checklist to show how they can make a difference by being kind and participate in our Great Kindness Week Themed Days (below). Classes with the most particpation will receive prizes.

This fall, the district was awarded a grant to purchase items for our School Aged Childcare Programs. Below are pictures of our SACC students having fun!

If your child wants lunch plus, they will be charged an additonal $1.50. First thru fifth graders can also purchase snacks for an additional charge. You can put money on your child's card via the Meal Magic Portal. Please see below for the link.
