Have a safe and blessed summer break!
Principals Message - Mrs McQuay
I have been overwhelmed by the outpouring of love, appreciation and kind words that I have received since announcing my retirement. It has been the most beautiful send off with the gifts; messages; each grade presenting a farewell message, at our final liturgy; my office filled with notes and balloons and then ending the year by delivering cake to each student to say goodbye.
Having started my career at St. Teresa’s, many of my first students were from Blackfalds and I feel so blessed that St. Gregory is my final school. It’s hard to believe that when the school opened it was projected to have only 225 students and in 6 short years we have grown to 725 students next year. That is credit to the hard work and leadership of Mrs. Ward, Mr. Hanna, Mr. Keith, Mr. Andrew and every staff member who comes to school each and every day to make St. Gregory’s the best school it can be.
So just as I began my career, with the students of Blackfalds, over the past 35 years we have both grown, faced challenges and built something to be so proud of and I am grateful to have been able to come full circle and end my career in the community of Blackfalds.
Thank you for welcoming me and for the wonderful memories that I take with me. It has been my true honour to be the principal of St. Gregory the Great and I will miss you all.
God bless,
Rose McQuay
Goodbye from Mrs. Ward
As the time has come for me to bid farewell, I find myself reflecting on the incredible journey I have had over the past six years at St Gregory the Great. It has been a blessing to have been able to open up a new school and it is with a mix of emotions that I write this goodbye message. I am excited about the new chapter awaiting me, but am also saddened to leave behind the place that has been my second home. I would like to express my deepest appreciation to the parents and guardians who have entrusted their children's education to us. Your unwavering support, partnership, and dedication to your children's success have been instrumental in creating a thriving school community. Thank you for allowing me to be a part of your child's educational journey. As I embark on a new chapter in my career, I will carry the memories and experiences from St Gregory with me. The friendships I have forged and the lessons I have learned will forever shape my journey as an educator. Though I may no longer be physically present within these walls, I will always hold a special place in my heart for SGTG. I leave with a sense of deep gratitude and an abundance of cherished memories. I wish everyone at St. Gregory the Great continued success. Have a safe and blessed summer break,
Angela Ward

Supply Lists
All school supplies lists for the 2023/22 school year are posted on the school website.
GR 1-9 STAGGERED START INFORMATION
At the beginning of the next school year, we will have a staggered entry with half of the students coming on the first day and the other half coming on the second day. This is a very effective way to reintroduce routine, build relationships with their teacher and new classmates, prior to the beginning curriculum after the September long weekend and relieve some of the anxiety of starting a new class or school.
Here are the staggered start dates:
Grades 1-9
August 31- Last Names A-K
September 1- Last Names L-Z
September 4- All students
Staggered entry times have been sent out for Kindergarten in their Welcome Letter as their programs always have a staggered entry. Pre K parents can sign up for staggered entry at meet the teacher.
RDCRS SUMMER READS
Red Deer Catholic Regional Schools has developed the RDCRS READS Program to foster a love of reading through continued access to books. This is done through a partnership with schools' Learning Commons and by creating classrooms rich in literacy.
Grades PreK - Grade 4:
Have the opportunity to get a Summer Reading Passport to take home with them and record their reading. If they bring them back in September, they will be entered to win some prizes.
Grades 5 and up:
Have the opportunity to get a summer reading bookmark from the librarian if they would like to participate in recording their reading over the summer.
Your child has had the opportunity to check out library books for the summer and is encouraged to visit the Blackfalds Public Library.
