The Reading Community City School District Board of Education held its tax budget hearing, organizational meeting and work session on January 6, 2021. Here is an overview of the important topics discussed. Board meetings are streamed and archived here.


Board Organization Meeting: Beth Wernery was nominated for and approved for the position of Board President. Alycia Bemmes was nominated for and approved for the position of Board Vice President. The Board of Education approved the annual tax budget during the organizational meeting. The tax budget is a requirement that must be approved by every Board of Education by January 20. In addition, the schedule of Board Meetings has been finalized for 2021 and can be found here.


Return to Full-Time Learning: With recent changes to the Ohio Department of Health’s COVID-19 recommendations, RCCSD is planning for a return to full-time learning at the start of the second semester, January 19. This will mean changes to arrival and dismissal times and many other challenges as we begin full-time learning for the first time this school year. The superintendent’s report, which covers many of these issues in detail, can be found here.

Surveys: Families need to fill out a Second Semester Intent Form for each student, making a selection on their learning model for the second semester, either In-Person (full-time) or Remote (full-time) Learning. Surveys were sent home earlier today and can also be found here. Please complete the form by Sunday, January 10 at 6 pm so the planning work can continue.


Community Forum: Superintendent Jason Enix is hosting an on-line Community Forum today, January 7 at 5:30 pm to provide more information about the new COVID recommendations, the planning for the return to full-time instruction, and answer any questions.

Preschool Planning: The board was presented with two options for preschool offerings for the 2021-2022 school year, with different tuition costs. The Board will be taking action on either a full-day or half-day preschool offering during the Board Meeting on January 9, 2021, at 9 am.
