Bulldog Bulletin
Week 6
MESSAGE FROM PRINCIPAL KIRK
Dear Bulldog Families,
The first quarter grading period ends on Friday, October 8. I encourage you to check your child’s FOCUS account and review their grades. Many of our students’ grades are artificially low at this time due to missing assignments. Fortunately, there is still time for grade improvement! Please talk with your child and direct him/her to utilize our power hour program to make up missing assignments and see their teachers for tutoring. With power hour there is no reason for any student to have a missing assignment negatively impact their grade.
I also want to make you aware this week of new quarantine guidelines from the Florida Department of Education. We have a flow chart in this newsletter for you to review. The biggest change applies to students who would be contacts to a positive Covid-19 case. Under the new guidelines, a student who is a contact to a positive Covid-19 case AND asymptomatic may remain in school if that is their parent’s decision. You can also choose to quarantine your student up to 7 days since the date of exposure to the positive case. Quarantine days do not count against a student’s attendance.
The Brevard County School Board renewed the mask policy for another 30 days. It still requires students to wear a mask indoors, but now provides teachers an option to allow a student to remove his/her mask if they are at least 6 ft. away from others. Our school district extended this same policy to our employees to allow them to remove their mask indoors as long as they remain at least 6 ft. away from students. I anticipate that many of our teachers will take advantage of the opportunity to remove their mask during instruction so that their students can more easily see and hear what they are saying. Please contact me if you have any questions about these health and safety updates.
We thank you for your continued support of Melbourne High School.
Go Bulldogs!

Student Incentive Program
One of the things we have planned this year to help promote a positive school culture is to establish a recognition system for our students. This will give teachers and staff the ability to acknowledge students who demonstrate attitudes and behaviors that reflect our school mission, which is to inspire students to strive for excellence in academics and responsible citizenry.
You can help us by making donations that we can use as incentives. We are going to provide Melbourne High items, such as t-shirts and sling bags, but the addition of other items would help us create a well-rounded selection for our students.
Examples of possible donations
· Gift cards for area restaurants
· Movie tickets
· Gas cards
Donations can be dropped off in the main office. Please label the items: Attention – Mrs. Kilmer
If you have any questions, please contact me at: kilmer.cindy@brevardschools.org
Thank you in advance for any donations you are able to provide!

Health and Safety
Stay home if you are sick: We ask our families to keep children home if they exhibit any Covid-19 symptoms for the safety of our students and staff. It is the most important thing you can do to help us mitigate the spread of Covid-19 on our campus.
What do I do if someone in my home contracts the Covid-19 virus? Please call the principal at 321-952-5880 x24503 if your student, or someone living in your home, contracts the Covid-19 virus. If you are going to quarantine your student, we will help you determine the correct dates for quarantine.
Clinic Policy: During the pandemic, any student sent home from our school clinic with Covid-19 related symptoms must quarantine for 10 calendar days unless (1) the student receives a negative Covid-19 test and brings the printed result to the school nurse or, (2) the student's family physician diagnoses the student's condition as something other than Covid-19 and writes a note allowing the student to return to school.
